Almost forgot...I need to pick up that SNK compilation this month.

Just know that this compilation is emulated in monaural sound, just like CAPCOM Arcade Classics, MIDWAY Arcade Treasures, and METAL SLUG 4&5

Even at the $20 price-point, i find it infuriating that something that should be so simple as keeping a game's basic stereo sound intact (on a dvd-rom no less) to be constantly overlooked on these goddamn 'arcade perfect' compilation discs.

Credit is due, however, to METAL SLUG 3 on Xbox, i'm pretty sure that one got through unscathed for some reason..

Meh. No big deal. I picked up the Arcade Classics, and haven't noticed a problem with sound or anything. I think we should be thankful we're getting this at all! Seriously, all these classic games which would cost close to $200 on the virtual console, and would literally be thousands of dollars on the AES. Also, the original AES system was in monaural. So, although stereo would be nice, the compilation SO rocks, that I think you shouldn't complain tongue

Yes, the AES system came with a mono a/v cable.. but it still has stereo capability.

Just look at the Mega-Modded Neo-Geo's for sale on ebay, they're modified through the system's stereo headphone output to be stereo-capable again.

Or you can just buy a modded a/v cable (he sells those too) to get the stereo output, although it's a slightly less clean sound than the Direct RCA Output modification.

As for this collection costing $1,000's in cartridge format, i doubt it. The only games in the compilation that might cost a lot because of their rarity are Shock Troopers and Top Hunter, and (maybe) Metal Slug, Super Sidekicks 3, and the golf game.

Fatal Fury 1 and (especially) World Heroes 1 are Horrible games by today's standards..

Man, you're out of the AES price loop aren't you smile Sure, you can pick up a conversion cart on ebay for a few hundred dollars, but an original Metal Slug AES sells for over $2000. Yes, over $2000 (assuming it's in NM shape). Also yes, AES collector's will pay that much. I thank SNK for releasing the Metal Slug anthology, otherwise no normal person could afford them!

Recently got myself Geometry Wars Galaxies, so I'll be spending a lot of time trying to get Gold on all planets and Geom-farming. Trying to get to Bronze on some of them really kills my hands - I've never seen such a battery drainer like this one! Will probably also go back to Contra 4 to work on that in Normal and Challenge modes. As for Nanostray 2, once I stop sucking so much and crashing into every single darned wall, enemy, or projectile; hopefully, I can beat Level 1.

After I finish dry humping MGS4 to completion, I'll probably resume playing P3 FES and Okami on the Wii. Then maybe finally start Ar Tonelico and giggle like a 13 year old at all the overt sexual innuendos. Then I'll probably go get Mana Khemia...

On the portable gaming side, I'll probably try playing Etrian Odyssey again. Nothing really of interest on the PSP, so I might just go back and finish Jeanne D Arc.

Maybe somewhere in between all the gaming, I'll get Wii Fit and fool myself into thinking I'm getting back into shape.

I'm complaining because it's false advertising to say that a compilation's games are 'Arcade-Perfect' and then not even bother to keep the original sound output intact.
Seriously, how f*ckin' hard can it be to emulate a simple 2-Channel audio scheme on a 128-bit system?

And i'm not just yelling at PlayMore here. Although i have never played either CAPCOM CLASSICS VOLUME 2 or MIDWAY TREASURES VOLUME 2, i'm willing to bet money that those are in Monaural as well.

..I was considering getting the SamSho Anthology when it comes out later this year, but if it's Mono (and it most likely will be), i'm definitely skipping it.

There seems to be a sound problem with Samurai Shodown on the Wii Virtual Console.  The guitar synth on Galford's stage seems off compared to the arcade version.

The announcer's 'Shobu!' is muffled for some reason.

I personally can't understand you guys! "Well, Haohmaru's sword was a little shinier in the original Neo-Geo system, so no WAY am I going to pick up a compilation of all the Samurai Shodowns for like $20 even though the original cartridges would cost a few thousand until they fix that shiny sword"! tongue

Seriously though, it's totally your loss! You're missing out on some super awesome compilations, and I believe that most of us out there are just really happy to be seeing these games. All these compilations (Mega Man, NeoGeo, Capcom, Sega) are kick ass!!

Why don't you try and let me know. I've noticed that people always say "how hard can it be..." when they have NO CLUE how hard anything is! Have you ever tried to take an old game and make it work on completely different architecture? I'm sure you haven't! Well, here's what I think the answer to your question is: Hard. DAMN hard!

And despite this, we still get all these classic games...
I love SNK smile
