Just listened to the CD. It is short, but both tracks make up one hell of a great medley. The arrangement of "Wind Scene" is indescribably lovely.
Frog's Theme is lamentably short. *cry cry* I finally got around to playing it and I think it's a wonderful port. Not only do they retain the anime cutscenes - my mouth fell open in surprise - but the use of the touch screen works nice off-battle. The classic mode of play is my way to go. Still working my way through the Millennial Fair.

I find it curious that they've chosen to specifically arrange the opening bars of the OSV's version -- and yet, that part of his theme, like the SNES original, still isn't featured in the DS version. At least not during its first occurrence in the game, where he takes leave from Guardia Castle. Weird, huh?
I finally tore myself away from Street Fighter to check this out. I just got to The End of Time and I would say that I'm mostly pleased with the port so far. My biggest complaint is that the original sprite-based intro sequence has been completely replaced with the inferior animated one. I was hoping that both would be in there. Most of the DS changes seem inconsequential -- the touch screen and dual screen additions don't really help or hurt. The translation seems a bit drier than Woosley's, however, and that takes a bit of the fun out of it, but it's still pretty good. I'll be interested in seeing whether or not Ozzie still has his famous line when I get to that part. Also, I don't remember being able to switch characters at any time in the original -- I thought you had to be on a location you could save at to do that. Am I remembering things right or could you always do that?
Out of curiosity, it it certain they only recorded those six minutes, or is a full orchestra arrangement possible (or possibily a compilation CD akin to the Shimomura one)?
Because damn that was gooood sheet.

Try
1. waiting on the title screen
2. turning off the cutscenes in the settings

I already tried both of those things, so unless you know some secret trick, it's not there.

The lack of the original intro is regrettable, but I'd hardly consider the animated one inferior. Is it that you find the animated sequence itself objectionable, or just the fact that it replaced the original outright?

Yeah, this feature is new for the DS. Does make the game somewhat easier, since you can just swap out any secondary character who's getting low on MP for one who's fully loaded. Makes getting through certain dungeons a breeze.
Anybody else not have their copy yet? My order's been listed as "Verifying" for almost a week now, which is odd considering I preordered it a month ago. I've been playing a bit of Chrono Cross in the meantime (not sequential I know, but what's chronology to a time-travel series?), but I'm starting to get a bit impatient.

Probably both, but I would be less agitated if the original sequence was still in there. I've been playing the game with animated sequences turned on since, outside of the opening, they play both the animated sequence and sprite-based sequence, and in every case I'd say the sprite-based animations carry more emotional weight than the animated ones.
