On September 20, Konami jazz fusion musician Motoaki Furukawa will perform a live concert with his band Voyager. It will start at 7:00 at Livegate Tokyo at Ebisu. The special guests will be former S.S.T. Band guitarist Koichi Namiki, who played with Furukawa on Policenauts F/N, and saxophonist Ikuma. In November, Voyager will also perform a concert in Kobe, though further details are to be announced. The Tokyo and Kobe concerts will be recorded for a live concert DVD scheduled for the end of the year.

In other Live Performance news, I hope that both the Hyper VGM Event ~ Extra Vol.2 and the Extra DVD end up getting revised/new release dates sometime, since they were initially slated for July and no updates since then.

Copyright issues.  I hope they figure them out, but it does seem somewhat impossible given the broad range of material from that performance.  Also, I heard some rumblings about another EXTRA concert in the works for 2008...

Motoaki Furukawa has had a busy year. In addition to his work with Voyager and this DVD, he's released 14 or so EPs and will join a big cast on the latest Thunder Force VI. I just really hope he does something different in at least one of those projects. Nearly all his freelance arrangements and solo compositions haven't impressed me, though I've never checked out his Guitar Freaks work.

Does anyone know if Furukawa + Namiki will PERFORM anything from the Policenauts F/N album? I would LOVE to see a live performance of "Just Who I Needed To See"...

In Hyper Game Music Event 2007, Motoaki Furukawa with Voyager played "Just Who I Needed To See" (of course without Namiki), but this track isn't in Hyper Game Music Event 2007 EXTRA The Live Album Vol.1...

... which means that if they were willing to play it last year, there would be a strong possibility that with Namiki being there they would certainly be likely to play it again.

It's not too late for Furukawa to get back to his 90s Kukeiha Club band roots. He needs to release an album with his band Voyager and knock off this dry solo stuff.
