So I finally opened the first game and got to episode 2, Turnabout Sisters...and got COMPLETELY stuck.

Okay, so. I got to the part where Redd White is revising his testimony (yet again) and he's describing that he first saw Mia run to the left, where Phoenix hit her, then she ran to the right, when Phoenix hit her again. I kept going through that testimony over and over and couldn't figure out what piece of evidence to use and when. My thought processes originally went:

1. How could Redd have seen Phoenix hit Mia if she and the killer ran out of his field of vision when they went to the left? The office map was pretty obvious in what could be seen in looking through the window. So I tried presenting the office map at various times. No luck.

2. If the light stand had broken when Mia ran to the left, then how could he or April May have seen her run to the right? Yeah, this was kind of grasping because I'm sure the office's overhead lights would come into play -- if they'd allowed me to make that objection.

3. Redd said Phoenix hit Mia, but April testified that she'd "dodged" the blow. I tried presenting April's testimony several times. Again no luck. And again, yeah, this one is iffy because Redd didn't specifically say how many times PW tried to attack, which means she could have dodged one blow but then gotten hit by others.

So! Whoever passed the case without an FAQ, how did you figure it out? Was it obvious what you had to do?

Ask yourself this: How many times was she struck, again? Is there a document that's certain?

If that seems nitpicky, well, welcome to Ace Attorney.

Oh, and don't be too quick to reset when it looks like you've run aground. Capcom loves its theater.

And after finishing the first PW and Case 1 in Justice for All, I return. ^_~

Grawwr...about the particular case I originally asked about, the thing is that when the autopsy report gets updated with Edgeworth's new version, it no longer says "a single blow." It says something like "a blunt-force..." something or other. I didn't even remember what the original autopsy report said. Maybe I was just overthinking or not thinking enough, but when I saw that, I thought, "Okay, it says she died from a blow, but she could have been struck several times and just died from one of those blows."

Oh well...heh...I have to admit I've had to resort to an FAQ several times in the first game. Sigh.

A word of warning: almost nobody (myself included) likes Case 3 of JFA. But it's worth sticking to, because Case 4 is the highlight of the whole damned series in my eyes (it's also hard as anything, but try to keep FAQs at bay).

Welcome to Phoenix Wright, Schala. Where anytime, anywhere, you're playing the Wright game.  You're enjoying the games, Wright?

Which case from the first game was your favorite?

Heh...greeeeat. Oh well, I managed to get through the entire game with maybe, hmm, 3 peeks at an FAQ. The rest were trial and error and much resetting. There was this particular moment in the Samurai case where I turned it off midway through testimony, then when I came back, I completely forget what point I was at and showed the wrong evidence time and again. Used up 8 marks in all. I hope I learned my lesson.

And I saw in Case 2 what you mean by Capcom loving its theater. ^_~

That....is bad. ^_~

As for which case, hmmmm.....I don't know. I liked them all for different reasons. Case 1 was really exciting to find and point out contradictions, Case 2 was "OMFG what just happened??" Case 3 was "holy crap, first it was this and then it totally went a different direction that I wasn't expecting," although that case really showed me the tediousness of moving around and investigating. Case 4 was another "OMFG" because of who was involved. Case 5 put all of the other stuff together, just a lot more epic (that case took FOREVER to complete) and a lot more tedious. I swear, it took all my brain power just to rip apart Angel's testimony on the first day, though I call foul on at least one part of that because they did not reveal the entire parking garage and so I had no idea why it would really matter if Angel was in the security office or not!

But yeah...I think it's a great series so far. I really love finding and pointing out contradictions, though my ability to do THAT certain plummeted as the series went on. (I stared at Dee's testimony FOREVER before I realized the error in it.) I plan on cosplaying as Lana Skye. ^_~

Sometimes you really have to look at a different angle when looking for any contradictions! I can't believe that it has been years since I played the first and 2nd game.

I actualy dressed up as one of the characters from the new series which you might not play for a while before going through the 2nd and 3rd Phoenix Wright story.  smile

Have fun and I am actualy playing through the 3rd game that finally came out here in the Uk last month. The new Apollo Justice game came out way before it but it didn't seem to spoil anything for the 3rd game as I played through it first.

Ah, Phoenix Wright, such a great game.  I loved the final three cases.  I actually had a lot of fun with the third one, because I had no idea what was going on and was sort of just going along for the ride!  The best part of that game are the funny lines that just happen all the time.  For example:

Edgeworth:  OBJECTION!
Edgeworth:  ...
Judge:  Yes, Mr. Edgeworth?
Edgeworth:  I was hoping to come up with a question while I was objecting, Your Honor...
Edgeworth:  I didn't.
Judge:  I see...very well.

--

Judge:  What exactly did you want her to testify about?
Edgeworth:  Mmmph!  Well, yes, um...
Edgeworth:  ...
Edgeworth:  Indeed!  Verily, I say...Ergo!

Both of those are from the third case.  Good times.

I've actually only played the first two games, but I just bought T&T and AJ off of ebay.  I'll play AJ first, only because I've heard that T&T is the best in the series (except maybe the original).

Sort of unrelated...but if I loved the original Gyakuten Meets Orchestra album, what is the general opinion on the 2008 Concert recording?  Is it worth the money (ie, how many new songs are there and how good are they)?  I mean, if it's almost the same as the original, it's not worth it to buy it again...but if it's significantly different...I'd be really excited to get it.

I loved Case 2 for the twist that forced Phoenix to have to defend himself.  That one remains to me one of the fresher court moments in the series thus far.  And Case 5 was worth sticking it out for the final day in court - particularly the revelations that came out of Ema's and Lana's testimonies.

I did a brief write-up on the 2008 CD a few months back, which you can check out here.  I'd say it's worth the price of admission for the new Villain Suite and GS4 Courtroom Suite pieces alone, but the Steel Samurai theme was completely rearranged, and there are enough subtle differences between the two performances that are worth listening to as well.  The instrumentation also has a far more authentic sound, no doubt the product of the live orchestra.

If you'd like, I can put together an extended sample for you to judge.

Speaking of PW music, is it just me or do the MP3s on Galbadia Hotel seems worse than the in-game versions? Not sure if the actual soundtrack sounded like this or if the move from game to CD had anything to do with it. Or if the Galbadia stuff just isn't encoded well.

But yeah, I love the music. I love the new testimony music in Justice for All, though it surprised me when I first heard it. How's the music in Apollo Justice? I'm thinking of picking that up, seeing as it's about the only PW CD that isn't yet OOP.

Oh, and case 3 is FINALLY done. I actually didn't need to look at an FAQ! ^_~

I can't claim to have heard Galbadia's rip, but there is a notable sound difference between the official GS Yomigaeru Gyakuten Original Soundtrack and the music as heard in-game.  The sound fidelity is more crisp on the OST, yet there are a few songs where I actually prefer the more robust and less treble-heavy quality of the in-game version.

But yeah, I love the music. I love the new testimony music in Justice for All, though it surprised me when I first heard it. How's the music in Apollo Justice?

It's good, if not ridiculously overused in the game itself.  The melodies are perhaps not as memorable as some of the stuff from the first three games, but the sound quality is heads and shoulders above the old stuff.
