fortunately my 3DS was a Christmas present so I will probably go out and get the XL in August.

I think Nintendo is the new Apple. That's kind of a big F.U. to everyone that has bought a 3DS.
but... your current AC adapter will work with the new 3DS! That's gotta count for... nothing.
Well, I'm not surprised. Nintendo has been releasing and updating their handheld for years. How many iterations did the GameBoy go through? Still, 90% bigger! Damn, that pretty much makes the current 3DS obsolete. I have to say I'm glad I haven't purchased one yet, but then again they have yet to release a game I really want (things may change if they release Fire Emblem 3DS in North America).
I do want this bigger 3DS, but probably will wait for it's price to drop down. Would make playing RE: Revelations better, feels so cramped on the small screen. And I don't feel like Nintendo is F.U'ing me, when I knew when I bought the 3DS that there will be XL/Lite versions coming up in the future, knowing Nintendo's history.
I don't see the 3DS XL as an FU to the 3DS anymore than the DSi XL was an FU to the DSi (it wasn't). It's just bigger. It still doesn't have a second analog stick or any reason to exist. The whole point of a handheld system is to be able to take gaming with you. This is too big for that. When I play at home, I have consoles. Why use a giant handheld when I can just play games more comfortably on my HDTV?
I don't agree with your line of thinking there. I'll admit I haven't held a 3DS XL or even a DSi XL but I really doubt they're too big to take with you. Most people (in Japan at least) carry their portable electronics in a bag anyway, so what does a couple extra ounces or inches matter? If that size in a portable device was prohibitive then tablet PCs wouldn't have caught on like they have.
If it's too large for your own personal taste that's understandable of course but saying it has no reason to exist is overstating it I think.
It seems like we just had this discussion about the DSi LL/XL. It's an alternate version of the product that sacrifices some of the portability for larger screens. Nobody's getting screwed here - it's going to be another option. I for one never had any desire for the monstrosity that was the DSi XL and I don't feel like I'm getting screwed at all that there's a version of my newest handheld that I have no interest in.
based on the screen size they could just call it Double-Ds... and sell them in pairs
just imagine the possible marketing campaign
"We've got the biggest! Buy our double-D's today!"
As someone who plays a lot of 2D/sprite based games, I'm staying far, far away from XL.

Actually I really like how 2D/sprite games look on the DSi XL - the bigger screens don't make the games look worse because their resolution hasn't changed. It's not like trying to play old games on an HD TV or anything.
I was going to buy a 3DS for Theatrhythm and Pokemon x Nobunaga but I guess now I have to wait ;/

The upscaling of DS games on the 3DS really turned me off--it was like playing a living .GIF. You can load DS games on the 3DS using DS's native resolution, but then it displays smaller than the original DS... so I'm just hanging on to my Lite. Maybe the same issues aren't factors with same resolutions and bigger screens, but I'm really content with the original size 3DS anyhow.

Pokemon x Nobunaga is a standard DS game, so you don't need a 3DS to play it!

They are not. I agree that regular DS games look awful on the 3DS - it's the difference in resolution that does it, though, not the size. DS games look beautiful and crisp on both the DSi's slightly larger screens and the DSi XL's much larger screens (hence I kept my DSi around for regular DS games - they look SO much better). I can only assume the same will be true with the 3DS XL. I've also read that the 1:1 pixel mode for original DS games on the 3DS XL will make them look better, too, due to the bigger pixels.
Still don't care as I don't want this new thing, but maybe that information will be useful to somebody on the fence?
I guess the new 3ds xl is out (saw some news article on it). I briefly considered getting this, but quickly realized there is not a single title I really want. If Nintendo would actually bother to release Fire Emblem for NA, that would change. As it is, I was actually wondering, what exactly HAS Nintendo released (for any system) recently that's newsworthy?
i'm going to wait until the silver or white versions come here to get one. i'm not really a fan of the NA release colors.
I got one on day one, since I'm a shameless consumer whore.
I like it WAY better than the original model, which had all kinds of problems, such as the frame of the bottom screen chafing against the top screen, horrible Select and Start buttons and you'd leave finger prints on the thing just by looking at it.
Also, Avatar, Fire Emblem has been announced for NA, so you don't have a valid reason anymore

Yay! Let's hope they do release it, seeing as the last FE (a remake) never made it here in NA.
I bought one and was holding out for the release because I don't own a regular DS but I want to play Theatrhythm and Pokemon Conquest. Not having any prior reference point, I like the XL. It is a bit heavy, but it love the screen size. It's unfortunate that the aliasing shows on the bigger screen size because it's just upscaled but it's not that bad.
WTF, a Pokemon X Nobunaga game?!?!?!
Seriously, someone was drunk off their ass to think that up, as those series are on polar opposites of the gaming spectrum...
Oh, the 3DS.
Currently the only title I would be interested in is Etrian Odyssey 4, but Atlas hasn't announced any English localization yet.
i will get a 3DS XL very soon. never got the original version, which makes this an easy buy. besides, i don't even have a DS anymore, i just kept the games.
I tried the 3DS XL at a store recently, and I have to say, it's really nice and a big improvement over the original 3DS in terms of design. I still think it's a little too large and heavy for a portable, but if you primarily want to play primarily at home, it's a good choice.
