Gosh, so much news today.  So yeah, no Zelda, Metroid, or Super Paper Mario, but at least we get Wii Fit and other non-games.  Just what we've all been asking for, right?

J.P. spied this one and translated the track titles.  Interesting mix of titles, but really, what the hell?

SonicPanda Sep 5, 2008

If you're going to throw Nintendogs music on there, why not the shopping theme for pity's sake?

Arcubalis Sep 5, 2008

Haha, I actually like the shopping theme...

In all honesty, I actually want to hear this CD.  I was really interested to hear Minegishi's music after he talked it up on the Wii Fit "Iwata Asks" interviews.  He said he went for live, warm sounds, etc.  And most of the menu and channel themes are pretty catchy, so yeah, musically, this will be cool, but it's just such a slap in the face to the hardcore gamers.

It's like, who buys this stuff?  It's not mainstream gamers for sure.  They don't care about game music, even if they like "casual" games.  We're the ones that buy it, so if they're going to put the effort in, give us what we want.

Carl Sep 5, 2008

I figured this would have happened much earlier actually, and I mentally estimated it would consist of the various Channel Themes and other Mii Menu musics. Turns out the prediction wasn’t too far off the mark.

Yeah, me too. Gimmie.

And for general Nintendo fans as well. Instead of a full Mario Sunshine OST, or a Zelda: TP OST, or a Metroid Prime 2/3 OST, etc, etc, etc - they give us this. I'll probably end up hunting one down for the sake of hunting one down, but I'm sure this won't even be close to making up for all the OST releases Nintendo has dropped the ball on over the past several years.

longhairmike Sep 5, 2008 (edited Sep 5, 2008)

maybe they realized it's just not worth their time to release ost since most people will just download it in a matter of minutes. Its like an amish person going into target and getting pissed off when they dont have a butter churn section. the number of people who BUY and collect cds is diminishing.

True, but as long as you don't over estimate demand and over produce something it shouldn't be a problem.

Qui-Gon Joe Sep 5, 2008

Well, I do need something to use my remaining Wii points for something... but I'm a bit short for the CD.  Anybody get any imports lately and can't use the points?

Sami Sep 6, 2008 (edited Sep 6, 2008)

If it's non-game music, what's this doing on the game music forum?

With so many excellent soundtracks in recent times... this borderlines on madness.

Whoa, that newspost is hilarious!

NOT MARIO. NOT ZELDA.

I can't decide if that website is making fun of hardcore gamers (and the Mario/Zelda thing) or if they're actually serious.

wouldn’t you guys rather see the stuff that Club Nintendo was doing before? Like the Peach Healing Music or Koopa Loud Music albums? I know I would!

Yeah, how about no? Those albums sucked bad.

(Again, I guess this could be sarcasm on the part of the blogger.)

I think by non-games, Arcubalis meant casual Wii games, such as Nintendogs, Wii Sports, Wii Fit and Wii Play.

I'm disappointed by Nintendo. Zelda TP was a great game in my opinion, and had some great tracks! I don't even want a complete soundtrack, but at least one CD with the highlights... I mean, how hard is that for Nintendo? Not to mention so many other games that come to mind (SM Sunshine, Fire Emblem, etc)...

At least Nintendo is giving us games. That's more than can be said for Sega. I still haven't forgiven them for not releasing the Phantasy Star remakes on the PS2 (I'm quite convinced Sega is actually run by infiltrators who's only purpose is to destroy the company... and they seem to be doing a good job)! When was the last time Sega released a good game?

cheers,

I would have talked up the Super Mario Galaxy release myself, but yeah.  Non-games.  Casual games and non-games are used somewhat interchangeably, but I feel they're different.

Anyway, I hope the rest of the articles on OSV aren't so misunderstood, haha.

Huh??  Interchangeable?  Non-games would be things like work and sleep, games are things that have controllers.

Arcubalis Sep 7, 2008 (edited Sep 7, 2008)

Nah.  If you read around, they really are used pretty interchangeably.  For example, Endless Ocean, Wii Fit, My ____ Coach, any of those recipe games or map things, they get categorized as either non-games or casual games.  I feel that one label is more correct than the other for each of these games, but this is really just semantics.

I like to think of non-games as software for a console or handheld that really isn't a game.  Like the recipe databases, language things, KORG DS-10, etc.  Even Electroplankton frequently was given the label of non-game.

Anyone know what Pigeon’s Nest is? It'd be nice to be able to attribute a composer / arranger to it.

Schala Sep 14, 2008

I just like the headline of the article. ^_~ True, I think Wii Fit's music is nice (when I actually do think about its music), but not enough to want it on CD.

Bernhardt Oct 5, 2008

I actually like the Wii Channel musics (especially for the Mii Channel and the Shopping Channel).

However, I think that stuff should've been downloadable from the console itself to your computer for free, or offered via the Shopping Channel for free (zero Wii Points; no money required, etc.)

And soundtracks still need to be released for Legend of Zelda ~ Twilight Princess and Fire Emblem ~ Radiant Dawn; otherwise Nintendo ought to go f--- themselves. Or maybe stop putting such good music in their games if they're not going to respect it.

Well I did hear that there is a new Fire Emblem OST coming out later this year from Aniplex (a DS one, to be exact).  Not that it means anything, but hopefully it'll mean a change of direction in the future.  (Not getting my hopes up though.)

Scitron used to publish a number of Nintendo albums, you might want to ask what happened to them after they changed their name to Happinet.
