Is anyone going to be recording the unreleased music from the reported music test?

If not, I will do the task. But, if someone else already is planning on it, I rather not do it as well.

Ooh...you might be up for a challenge then. I heard the music test was an unlockable for the extra content in the Extra Hard replays.

Yeah, I've noticed new music in the cinematics. Nothing substantial though.

The game is a big bore. No surprises there.

Music that was not in the JP version? Or Music that was in both the US & JP version but not on the OST?

I don't know. I'd imagine it was stuff in the JP version unless they added new cinematics into the US version (which isn't very likely). Either way, it's stuff not on the OST (probably omitted because of space restrictions).

Well, I was just over at www.squareenixmusic.com, and saw a new bit of news...the extra tracks WILL be released!

...on iTunes Japan.

However, the guys there are promising to post it up if they get their hands on it, so we'll just have to wait a bit longer.

Are these just the US tracks... Or are these tracks that were in the JP version too but didn't make the OST?

If I can find someone that has the game that I know or I rent it soon, I will record anything not released.

RyuFAN over at GamingForce just pointed out that the sound collection is officially announded on SE's iTunes page. No release date yet, but it DOES say that it'll contain 27 tunes. 27!!!

Also, Hamauzu updated his journal. And despite the typical Altavista butchery, I can still report this...

"This sound collection original sound track not yet recording tune, consists of all the 27 tunes such as online and the North American edition private tune and short BGM collection."

So it sounds like everything else - EVERYTHING - is accounted for.
And BOY, does that make me happy!

Let's keep an eye on squareenixmusic.com and gamingforce.com...I bet that's where they'll end up very soon.

It's quite sad that we won't see some sort of DoC OST + , but oh well, at least they're releasing something officially.

It's worth getting just for "Train Graveyard" alone.

I finally managed to snag it last night, but BOY did SendSpace make it difficult for me...
This morning I was listening to it, and I'm quite pleased. I can understand why many of these tracks were overlooked in favor of what ended up on the OST, but it's still a joy to have them all!

Props also must go to Ryo Yamazaki...not only for stellar synth work (as always!), but for pulling the wool over our eyes.

About a year ago, when media for DoC was scarce, video clips of the Beta version ended up online. That was the first many of us had heard in-game music at all. My first impression was, "Ooh...Hamauzu is taking a Sakimoto route here. Nice!"

As it turns out...that music was "Fierce Battle"...by Yamazaki. OOPS!

But I have to say...THAT is certainly one of the tracks I was looking for, and I was quite disappointed when it wasn't released the first time around. But now we know why.

I'll need to listen to this a little more before I post more, but I'm quite delighted. Thanks to RyuFAN and SEM for providing this!

Oh...there is one more thing. Does anyone else get the feeling that the last two tracks are "table scraps"? It sounds as if he strung many of the cinematic jingles together...

Yeah (especially with "First Encounters"). But I got that feeling from the whole release, honestly. Aside from maybe four or five tracks, I'm glad this stuff was left off of the official release. It would have slaughtered the pacing.

Then again, this new stuff is mostly electronica Hamauzu (and admittingly not to my taste). It's also missing all the thematic material that made the original release so fascinating to me.

(That and literally every track here is synth, something that the original release certainly didn't suffer from)

Man. The more I listen to these tunes, the more upset I get that there was no official release for these tunes. I love Hamauzu's funky/experimental electronica side more than most of his other stuff (especially the thematic/orchestrated side of him), so these MP3s are right up my alley. Probably some of my favorite stuff that has "been released" this year thus far!

Edit: Would it be too much to hope for a low-priced separate release for these tunes, a la SMTIII Nocturne Maniacs?

My thoughts so far: It starts out great with Turks 101. The following three tracks are neat too. But I'm not sure of the rest of the tracks. I got nothing out of the orchestral stuff (I rarely do), and the rest didn't really leave any impression. Some nice ambient tracks, but I'd say compositionally it's a bit thin compared to U:S disc 2. It's clear that Hama's focus was creating a dark orchestral body that became the OST.
