Ugly Bob Feb 8, 2010

Just announced as guests this Monday morning! The VGO was severely lacking IMO, last year, so Mr. Uematsu will do a lot to attract potential fans to AB!

I know Zane and others are from the area, so I wanted to let you know just in case you don't follow the updates on AB's website.

I'll be there!  Anybody else?

Also, just found out this bit of news!

Unlike last year, VGO will be appearing with its full 90-person ensemble.

This is actually more exciting to me, due to their disappointing performance last year. Unlike with Uematsu, we know what we will be getting with their full orchestra performance!

I'd like to think that my criticism last year had something to do with this decision...

Also, I just read that the VGO held a concert at Berkelee in December of 2009. Too bad I missed it, did anyone here attend? the_miker or Zane?

Got a link that one can follow to find out more about this event?

sure thing:

http://animeboston.com/ has all the details thus far about Mr. Uematsu as well as the other events scheduled for the convention.

I might actually try to make this after this news.  It ultimately comes down to if I can convince at least one or two friends.  It's not a trip I care to make alone.

Yep! Mike and I went to the show together, and we also met up with XISMZERO and one of his friends. Aside from a dragged-out Western VGM segment it was really, really awesome. I never thought I'd say this, but their performance on "One Winged Angel" actually moved me to the point where I sat up and thought to myself, "Damn, this really is a good song."

I am probably going to end up at the convention again this year because Uematsu is going to be there. If it were just VGO I'd sit this one out. No offense to them at the least - they put on an amazing show and are well worth the trip to see them - but I don't know if I could handle another whole day walking around in a sea of awful cosplay. Except for that one super hot chick that was dressed up like KOS-MOS last year. I'd easily spend a whole day in a sea of her.

Ugly Bob Feb 9, 2010

cool, hope to see you there!

Thanks for your comments on the December 2009 concert. One Winged Angel has always been awesome for me; even with FFVII's popularity and the song's subsequent overexposure, I still haven't gotten tired of it.

As for cosplay, that is definitely true. Luckily for every 100 bad to average cosplay, there are a few that make it all worthwhile.

That's a bit of an understatement.  I'm pretty sure at one point I had to elbow you because you had fallen asleep.

Anyway yeah, that December show was some of the better live VGM I've heard.  Easily the best FFVII because, as Zane already covered, they nailed One Winged Angel.  If they pull that off with Uematsu watching, I'm pretty sure he'll be giving them a standing ovation.

VGO actually had a live audio stream going during that concert.  Somebody saved the stream and cut it up into mp3s.  I uploaded it here.  If you listen very carefully to track 12, I'm pretty sure you'll hear Tommy snoring. tongue

Thanks for the link! I'll check it out shortly.

No, I think you elbowed me because you're a dick and you don't understand the idea of personal space. Don't pop my bubble! I think if the Western stuff was spread out more instead of being presented as a long-ass suite it would have been more tolerable but that stuff completely slayed me. Here's to a more balanced and awesome-filled performance!

That said, if anyone is in town and wants to hang or needs a place to crash, drop me a message and we'll kick it!

Ramza Feb 11, 2010

I might be attending this. If anyone wants to meet the hottest guy in the universe, don't be looking for me. Cuz I'm not too hot.
