Anyone who ordered the Super Mario Galaxy soundtrack from whichever site, have you received it yet?

Amazingu Dec 10, 2007

Uh...I'm not sure, but the only way to get that soundtrack is through Club Nintendo, I assume that's the same for online stores as well, and Club Nintendo doesn't start shipping the soundtrack until mid january.

Vaeran Dec 10, 2007

It looks like the version at VGM World is a different edition - it's only one disc, while the one available for preorder at Play Asia, Yes-Asia, etc. is two discs.

Yes, the one-disc version is supposed to have the more orchestrated stuff while the two-disc OST will have the full soundtrack. I can't imagine a CD release without Beach Bowl or Honeyhive's music.

XLord007 Dec 10, 2007

NCSX said the two-disc one would ship in January and the one-disc one would ship in February, IIRC.

Crash Dec 10, 2007

One disc = Gold version
Two disc = Platinum version

loveydovey Dec 10, 2007

So it sounds like the 1 disc version will still have some songs not on the 2 disc version?

Qui-Gon Joe Dec 11, 2007

The one disc version is exactly the same as disc one of the two disc set.  It's the live orchestra stuff.  Disc 2 is the rest of the ost, done with synth/midi/whatever  (why does typing this feel like deja vu from the other thread about it?).

Arcubalis Dec 11, 2007

I think it's because it just wouldn't feel right if Bernhardt didn't create a thread about EVERY SINGLE soundtrack release that has ever been.

Ephidel Dec 13, 2007

There is one small question on my mind. How quickly would anyone be willing to estimate, will all the play-asia preorders sell out after going up on the site? I only get occasional net usage and I'm obviously concerned about missing out. Also, rough price guide anyone? I'm not sure £50 will cover it!

Well, the other sites were selling it for 30-50 USD, so I'd imagine £50 would be more than enough.  That is, ya know, assuming Play Asia doesn't see the demand and jack the price up super high.  I imagine that they'll sell out pretty quickly, so my best suggestion would be to sign up for the thing to email you when it goes up for preorder and check your email as frequently as possible.  I'm still annoyed with Nintendo for not just putting this album out for general sale.  The frenzy with which people placed preorders at the other places certainly shows they could've made some money on it.

Vaeran Dec 13, 2007

I already placed my preorder at NCSX when it opened, but I've never dealt with them before so I don't really know anything about their reliability. I'm seriously considering putting in a second preorder with Play-Asia when it becomes available, just to be sure I get one hmm

Qui-Gon Joe Dec 14, 2007

NCSX is one of the oldest and most reliable import stores that exist and I've bought stuff from them for years.  They even modded my Saturn!  They DO occasionally have supply issues, but in general they're quite dependable.

Angela Dec 14, 2007

Another thumbs-up for NCSX.  They're my number one choice for must-have imports; it just helps so much that they're situated right here in NYC where I am, that I almost always get my packages just a day after they ship. :)

I've got the Galaxy 2-Disc on tap with NCSX.  They're incredibly accurate when it comes to filling preorders, so if you were in during those scant few days when they were taking them, you should be set.

Thanks for the info Qui-Gon,

Any idea about how long it will take before they (play-asia) start pre-ordering? Do they have some kind of method (pre-ordering can only be done one month before release)?

Yep, I went with NCSX as well.  I've used them for years and they've never let me down.  They are a bit pricier than other places (especially on shipping), but very reliable.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but, is there a provisional release date for the soundtrack?

Not that I know of. So far it's still just "Jan 2008" sometime. I recommend going to the PA SMG OST page and having them e-mail you via the "personal agent" (right side) when it's available:

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-na- … 43-n9.html

Ephidel Dec 25, 2007

It takes up to a week for Play-Asia's e-mails to show up in my inbox, so as much as it could be a good idea, it ain't gonna work for me. I'm guessing it's going to be the last week of Jan and that they'll only allow pre-orders one month in advance of the release date, meaning I'm going to have about 0 hours sleep for one week starting now! I swear I'll kill someone if I miss this. I've been checking it at least every hour for the last two weeks.

Jon Turner Dec 27, 2007

I ordered mine from NCSX, or whatever that place is.

Speaking of which, I just received the game, and I am having an absolute blast with it.  The music, in particular, is some of the finest I've heard from a Mario game or Nintendo in a long time.  Not that last year's debut Wii Nintendo game TWILIGHT PRINCESS' score wasn't any good--in fact, it owns the title of being the most complex ZELDA score so far, one in need of an album release (even though the sound quality was inconsistent in places, although not too bad IMO).  SUPER MARIO GALAXY is notable for being the first time that Nintendo actually USES an orchestra to provide most of the tracks in the game, and better yet, they even allow several tunes, like "Bowser's Battle Theme" (which, by the way, is AWESOME--lightyears above that of SM64 and SMSunshine, respectively), to add on other instruments without feeling choppy or forced.  Nintendo really nailed this score.

As for whether they nailed the OST release, I am going to be very, very pissed if even one track is missing.  Their album release situation has left a lot to be desired over the past few years.  That SMG is one of their first full-fledged albums in years is cause for excitement, but at the same time, its easy to be skeptical--will they make this a worthwhile collector's treat or just a lame "compilation" dreck?

Play Asia has their preorders up.

Jay Jan 31, 2008

Thanks for the heads-up, Joe. I imagine they won't last long.

Yep, signing up for that turned out to be utterly pointless. If it wasn't for Joe, I probably would have missed out on that completely.

Pellasos Feb 1, 2008

out of stock now.

Jay Feb 1, 2008

And they're shipping what stock they had already. I just got my shipping notification.

Thanks again, Joe. I had been waiting for that preorder to show up and would have totally missed it without you.

Kenology Feb 1, 2008

Anyone know when the NCSX preorders ship!?  I'm getting worried...
