All of a sudden, my Wiimote is not working! Whenever I press any button, it just flashes. I personally think it's cheaply made and is defective, seeing as I have not dropped it, nor subjected it to any unnatural stress nor strain. I'm calling Nintendo tomorrow, but just wondering if anyone has experienced this? Honestly, I'm really not surprised, seeing as all Nintendo hardware is now made in China (I wish Nintendo would have continued to produce high quality goods from Japan, but I guess cheap Chinese goods are the wave of the future)...

bummer,

Perhaps the batteries are dying down?

That was the first thing that occured to me, and unfortunately is most definitely not the case.

It might have lost the synchronization to the Wii for some reason. This has happened to us before; when this happens, if you press the Power button, all the blue buttons just flash and then goes off. You just have to re-sync the 'mote with the Wii following the instructions in the manual.

I tried that three time and it didn't work.
However, apparently the Wii will eventually give in, because for whatever reason it works now! Weird. I'm still betting something is defective...  Anyway, thanks,

Now, a few minutes later, it doesn't work again...
I'm getting annoyed...

I had this happen to me about a month back, too.  Re-synching didn't seem to work the first five or so times I tried it, so I gave up for a bit.  I came back to it later, tried again, and it worked just fine!  Sounds like the same thing just happened to you.  Very odd.

I had the exact same thing happen... the very first day I got my Wii, actually.  I was SO disheartened, thinking that I'd payed to have a defective Wii shipped to me over here... but then it just magically started working again.  I'm glad you guys have mentioned this, since it seemed like NOBODY else on the internet has mentioned this happening.  It is quite strange.

I have had this problem, but it is not consistent.  I think some stronger Bluetooth device is nearby and interfering with the signal.

If you power on the Wii, and then hold the sync button on the Wii for 15 seconds, it erases all its sync data.  You can try to resync the remotes again.

And if it's a continued problem, the remote is under warranty, right?  Nintendo is very good about taking care of these problems.  I don't think the remote is not cheaply made.  It's actually surprisingly durable for an electronics device.

I had this problem once, but it wasn't the fault of the Wiimote, it was purely user error. :)

When we first got Wario Ware: Smooth Moves, I took out a second Wiimote to turn it on to (think) I was letting a second player in to play multiplayer (we'd just gotten the game) -- and it displayed the same behavior, blinking 10 times or so, then never coming on.  This was, of course, because the game doesn't support a second controller until you've unlocked multiplayer mode, oops.

The problem you guys are having sounds completely different though.

Are there any rechargable Wiimote battery packs available yet?  I'd totally invest in some of those if such things existed.  AAs are so... 1980s. ;)

Not yet, but they're on the way.  I think Nyko is supposed to be first.

What's the difference between Wii-specific rechargable packs and any ol' rechargable?

It's too bad we have no more outlets available for use without exponentially raising our risk of electrical fire...I'd probably get one of those Wiimote-charger stands.

Still, nothing can beat the AA. I'm starting to get especially disgusted with the newer Gameboys that have only pre-installed battery packs. What am I gonna do if I wanna take my GB on a long flight? If you ask me, the "portableness" of the GB has diminished considerably ever since they stopped allowing the use of regular batteries in them.

The Nyko products is a battery pack *and* recharging dock.  You are supposed to put the remote on the dock via the nunchck slot.  It charges the Nyko battery pack that way.

I have no idea if it'll work or blow up your remote.

The Li-Ion battery averages about 10 hours.  Nintendo probably decided that it was more efficient this way, but if you're doing transatlantic flights of greater than 10 hours, then that would be a problem, unless the airline has outlets for charging.
