It hasn't been announced on Falcom's website yet, but a Famitsu gif advertisement has confirmed that it's coming on 3/29 (2 discs).  Another album has also been announced for the same day: "Falcom Live 2007 Original Sounds."  No tracklists are available yet.

I find it kind of odd that they'd be able to have a CD of Falcom Live 2007 ready 3 days after the concert.  I guess they could just record it in advance, but then that sort of negates the "live" aspect, doesn't it?

Vaeran Feb 2, 2007

The odd term "Original Sounds" on the Falcom Live album, along with its release date, makes me think that it's just a compilation of the OST versions of whatever they perform live at the show - similar to what happened with the Dear Friends FF concerts here.  I hope I'm wrong.

PeteV Feb 9, 2007 (edited Feb 9, 2007)

Falcom has begun to accept pre-orders for both albums.   The OST will contain everything you would expect, plus a longer version of the opening theme as a bonus track.

As for the Original Sounds album, a full tracklist hasn't been announced yet.  It will contain To Make the End of Battle, Valestine Castle, Silver Will Golden Wings, Mighty Obstacle ~Wind of Zemeth~, the opening theme to Ys Origin and new songs, which will be announced later.  It is also 2 CDs and will be produced in limited quantities.

This is old, but it doesn't seem like any has been talking about this album since it dropped.  I finally got around to getting it and it's absolutely fantastic.  It actually sounds a lot more like Oath than Ark with it's heavy orchestral tone, often tinged with some rock, and arrangements of timeless themes.  But there's still a little bit of awesome, melodic/ambient stuff found on Ark.  There's even some jazzy numbers (Tension) and of course it has the trademark JDK rock.  Overall it's definitely the most diversified Ys OST ever, and could even be mistaken for a new Legend of Xanadu album (pre-Next), if it turned out really awesome.   Which is a good thing.

Ys Origin is fan-freakin-tastic.

I love the orchestrated version of Termination, among other things.

I really like this one now...It needed time to grow on me, but there are a lot of dynamite compositions on this. It's a tad more orchestral than I'd expect from an Ys soundtrack (compared to the electronica from Ys VI), but the sound quality is quite good. And I can't say enough good things about "Genesis Beyond the Beginning"...This is easily on par with the best tracks from the series. Violin, rock guitar, choir, killer melody...Amazing stuff. And yeah, this Termination is a really nice transition (though I still prefer the trusty Ys II Perfect Collection version), as is Tower of the Shadow of Death's return (ALMOST surpasses the Ys IV PC version) The rock overall is also a lot more intense and raw than Felghana, which is something I'm really enjoying (I love Felghana, of course, but I can't deny it's a bit too...polished in some spots.)

Dear Falcom:

Super Arrange it. NOW!

Now...uh...how about releasing the games here, hm?

XLord007 Apr 16, 2007

I like this a lot more than the Oath OST, but not as much as the Ys VI one.  The rock, jazz, and world type tracks I really like, but the orchestra stuff I'm not that thrilled with.  Still, it's damn good overall.

Yep, the Ys Origin soundtrack definitely rocks.  I can't decide if I actually like it better than Ys VI's soundtrack overall, but all I know is Silent Desert (track 15) is definitely one of my favorite Ys tracks of all time.  The arranges of the lesser known "unreleased" tracks from the original Ys game was a nice touch too.  If we're going to have any remixes at all, I'd much rather have them be the less common ones (which ruled anyway, especially on the Ys Renewal album), as opposed to the usual themes that have already been arranged countless times.  I just wish they would have spaced out the dungeon and boss themes a bit better among the 2 discs, as the majority of them appear on disc 1, leaving disc 2 a little high n' dry in comparison.

By the way Gold, man, you should have heard the live version of Genesis Beyond The Beginning at Falcom Live 2007.  It was definitely the climax performance of the concert, having just been preceded by To Make The End Of Battle and Valestine Castle Felghana Version.  Everyone went nuts.  Or at least I did.  There was also an excellent vocal performance of Scars Of The Divine Wing, which will likely appear in a future arrange CD.  Speaking of which, I've been meaning to write up a review of the concert, but alas, I'm lazy. (Right Carl? ^^  Don't worry, I'll send your stuff)

Almost certainly a no-brainer purchase for me at some point, but is there some place I could listen to a few samples real quick?

Thanks! smile

Nemo Apr 18, 2007

Rpgfan.com?  BTW Ramza, how come this site is blocked on my work PC now?  You guys promoting p0rn or something? wink

Not as lazy as I am - I've been waiting for you to do it so I don't have to.  tongue

Also, as you weren't crammed against the back wall by the bathroom, you actually were close enough to see which singers sang which songs.  I could see nothing but an occasional glimpse of the guitarist hopping around.

I listened to all the samples on RPGFan...and they all sounded exactly the same as the .ogg files that came with the game...They're good, don't get me wrong, but is there anything particularly exceptional exclusive to the music CD release?

thx

The CD. ^^

Ys ~ Oath of Felghana didn't really strike much of a chord with me either, so I must admit I was pretty skeptical about Ys Origin, too. I waited for the samples on RPGFan.com, and this time around, it sounds really good.

My questions at this point would be:

-Is this another soundtrack re-make or a first-time original soundtrack?
-Was/is the game released/going to be released in the U.S., under what title, and on which console?

1.  First-time original soundtrack.

2.  No.  So far released only in Japan on PC.

GoldfishX Apr 26, 2007 (edited Apr 26, 2007)

Very nice...Unlike the Felghana SAV, it seems they managed to hit the majority of the important ones from the OST. No "Shadow of the Tower of Death" or "Termination" or "Water Prison" (easily the best non-rock new track from the album), but seeing "Overdrive"'s first official arrangement is nice and they can definitely leave Feena off as well. I'm greatly anticipating this, especially if it's anything like the "Jill" project albums.

I'll be sure to pick it up from Kahori once the time comes.

So, uhh...what's the difference between an "Arrange Version," a "Super Arrange Version," and a "Premium Arrange Version?" Marketing?

Stephen May 3, 2007

Just got this and I like the synths and compositions of the music.  The early tracks on disc 1 don't fade away at the end, which was VERY nice, but then the rest of the tracks started to do this. sad  I really wish more musicians would actually write songs that have a conclusive end rather than fading out.

Rogles May 4, 2007

The Ys Origin soundtrack is not bad. I just wish they would have used more live instrument recordings in the tracks - especially the hard rock ones like Silent Desert. Fade outs suck too. Thankfully the opening track doesn't suffer from any of these things.
