That's a shame.  I played through the original Dreamcast version, and it was a pretty decent shooter.  I would've picked up the NGC version on the cheap.

I think it was only $19.99 MSRP, too. Oh well. There are rumors of it resurfacing on some Wii compilation in the future, but then we'll probably get the excuse that shooters isn't a profitable genre anymore.

If profitability were the case, why are there so many on the VC?

I was just making a snide comment toward O3's reasoning. But, for argument's sake, you could say that printing and pressing and physically releasing an obscure shooter is a lot less profitable than releasing a digital ROM of something like Gradius III on the VC. It doesn't cost the publisher anything as far as physical materials are concerned; they save on shipping, packaging, manual printing and design, disc pressing, etc.

Either way, thumbs way down. sad

Ryu Jun 2, 2007

Good point.  Add to it that Gradius is an established franchise.  Radio Allergy obviously isn't and the name sounds... goofy.  Stand-alone on disc perhaps will never happen, but in a compilation for the Wii or some digital distribution the game may still have a chance.

The game was supposed to be out a long time ago; what was the reason for the frequent delays?

csK Jun 3, 2007

Thats a real shame, it always makes me sad when they cancel yet another shooter release in this country (despite not owning a GC)

What do the people who've played this game think of it, on any incarnation (DC, PS2, GC)?  I've thought about buying the PS2 version but always choose something else since it just seems so, funky tongue

O3 stated in the link Zane presented that they could not convince any retailers to carry their game for sale.  It looks like even Amazon changed their minds.

csK Jun 3, 2007

I see.  Thats a little surprising, I don't see why Amazon or some more specialists shops would have a problem with even stocking a limited number of copies.

Zane Jun 3, 2007

I kind of see that as a crop of bullshit... I mean, they released Twilight Princess not too long ago, and Madden is coming out. I think that O3 is disinterested in releasing the game because they could lose money on it. I have personal doubts that it's the retailers that are the ones whose lack of interest cancelled the game. Amazon had preorders up for a few months; O3 was the reason it kept getting delayed.

Don't feel too bad, IMO it's the 3rd worst shooter released on DC in front of Last Hope (which is a dojin) and Chaos Field, and the 2nd worst on PS2, in front of Chaos Field.  If you have a PS2, everyone should be playing Raiden III, which is quite good.

I feel the exact opposite. I thought Raiden III was boring and low budget, but Chaos Field (GCN) is a lot of fun to play. $30 for a crappy port is a lot of money when you can get something like Taito Legends 2 that has a ton of good shooters, from G-Darius to Metal Black and a bunch of stuff in between.

Retailers will stock Zelda because it's a Zelda game. Same thing with a few licensed games that are still scheduled for the thing. Radio Allergy is a game no one knows, and I'm not even sure if very many places even have new GC stock anymore. It's an understandable issue on their end.

I can't say I'd cry for it much either, it's not really that all fantastic of a game. I prefer the look of Radirgy to Karous, but Karous has more interesting mechanics.

Nemo Jun 3, 2007

I just don't like Milestone's shooters, Karous is really cool artistically, but like all Ms's games its scoring system pisses me off.  Why even call it a shooter if you're not going to shoot things?  Though each game they have put out has gotten progressively better, so hopefully by their 31st game, I might really like it.  Raiden III is cool because it has an intuitive, simple scoring system that coincides with survival and a challenging but consistent 1-credit clear.

csK Jun 4, 2007

I have thought about picking up Raiden III... it doesn't look as cool as Raiden DX (which is unfortunetly hard to find), but it looks like it would at least be fun for two players (if a bit simplistic.)  And thirty dollars is not a bad price considering the Japanese version is still brand new at 5000+ yen (that is, until the Taito Best release comes out.)
