Do you mean music that's similar in style or just more shmup music?
For the latter you'll be wanting to seek out pretty much anything from the Gradius series. The OSTs are stunning enough, but some of the arrange albums are just plain awesome. Actually if you liked the Salamander 2 soundtrack you owe it to yourself to track down the Pro-Fusion arrangement album. Mushihimesama is my favourite score from the Cave games, but Espgaluda is pretty damn good too.
For a more orchestral style you can't go wrong with Radiant Silvergun in my book.
For something a bit different try out Zuntata's stuff for the Darius and Ray... series.
Definitely all Zuntata's Darius/Ray stuff! Even some of their others, like Gekirindan. All the rest of Manabu's stuff, like Battle Garegga, DDPDOJ, Ketsui, Armed Police Batrider (no official release afaik, but one hell of a soundtrack). Definitely give the Border Down OST a listen (as classy as it gets). R-Type Delta is another good one. There's heaps out there. Shmup music is my favorite vgm (just has a certain energy to it, plus I'm a big shmup fan), but like sabreman said, there's different styles within the field... so it depends if you're picky regarding genre too.
Actually, I'm fairly new to the "schmup" sub-genre of game music. I'll definitely check out Gradius, and I keep hearing things about Zuntata, so I'll check him out as well. Thanks a ton you guys.
Not like the ones you have heard, but Lords of Thunder for the Turbo Duo has an amazing heavy metal soundtrack that is up there with some of the best VGM rock albums. I suggest you look into it if you like oppressive heavy metal, it fits the game perfectly and it has the best last boss theme that I have ever heard.
Yeah try to check Border Down, Chaos Field & Broken Thunder (Thunder Force) to name a few.
