Not as happy as I am...Dracula X for $8 is a lot better than getting a PSP and the remake for...well, considerably more. Toss in Riot Zone for good measure and Lords of Thunder will FINALLY get the recognition it deserves. Slick move, Nintendo.
That is pretty cool... I know a lot of people who would really enjoy some Turbo CD games.
You know what would be even cooler, for me? Let's see... optical disc drive, PC Engine emulation inside... I want to just put my own extensive collection of PC Engine CD games into the Wii and have them work.
Are they skipping the CD music then? How can they do this?

I assume it's not much of an issue to just change the music to a smaller format. That, or it'll be a huge download.

Great news indeed, though the one game I truelly hope they release is Dungeon Explorer II. I popped my japanese game into Magic Engine and played for a few minutes...oldschool 2-player greatness. ^_^
Sweet, I am stoked! We should just make a "Wii VC starts kicking a$$" thread to cover all this stuff (With Neo Geo games on the way and Sin & Punishment making its way to at least some Western markets.)
I am quite curious what they're gonna do for the music on Turbo CD games. Even if they compress the redbook audio tracks it would still come out to an extra 30MB or more I would think. There's 512MB of flash for VC games right? If the VC catalog keeps picking up steam those downloads are gonna start to add up.

Either that, or I'm going to need a bigger memory card (4 Gigs should suffice)

SD cards would suffice but as it is now you can't load VC games onto SD cards right?
You can back up the VC channel to the SD card, but you cannot back up the save file to the SD card.
SWEET! I also have to wonder how they're going to pull this off, but on the other hand, as long as they manage to pull it off the rest of us prosper I wonder... does this mean other CD games (Sega CD etc) will also be available for download? Although I think this is a beautiful thing, I have to admit that the best thing would have been for Falcom to release a compilation just like Sega and Capcom did. Now THAT would truly have been spectacular!

I have doubts that the Saturn games can be done because compression technology can't be that good enough to squeeze all those movies, etc to fit on the feeble Wii internal memory. It would be nice that Nintendo can allow access to SD or USB memory from the Wii menu... I guess it is possible with a system update?

Oh come now, they might be able to pull off some kind of compression... anything they could come up with couldn't possibly be worse than the way videos looked on the Saturn anyway.

Heh. It'll be totally worth it for the classic Marvel fighters (pre-MvC I prefer anyway). I have only 312 blocks of internal memory left though, so I'm curious to see what Nintendo does about expanding memory regardless.
The hard drive does seem inevitable, what with the VC being a resounding success. Does the Wii have a USB port?
Does the Wii have a USB port?
It has two.
Excellent. As it stands now, it's probably impossible to just connect an external harddrive to the system, correct?

Correct. Though seriously, I don't want a hard drive for the Wii. The beauty of the Wii is that's it's small and elegant. An external HD ruins that. All the Wii needs is two simple firmware updates: one to enable VC games to be saved directly to and booted from the SD card (they could still be locked to the console) and one to allow SD HiCap cards (those bigger than 2 GB) to function correctly.

I could see that as a viable solution. In any case, they better get on the ball fast. Well done.
