I really wish they'd make an effort to put out a comprehensive Rockman vocal collection, even if they had to break it up into several volumes. There've been some really good songs along the way (Electrical Communication definitely included)... I just hate buying singles.

Man, that's the opposite of me... I love the opening theme for X4 "I've Got an Unbeatable Love" but I could leave the rest of them (Electrical Communication is pretty good and fitting for MM8 tho); buying the vocal collection for one song hardly seems ideal even though you do get more for your money. Still, at some point I'd like to obtain the "One More Chance" single and call it a day.

I wish "Wind, Carry My Words" from Battle and Chase was on the VC though... like that one too. The ones from Rockman DASH aren't too shabby either.

If I remember correctly Rockman Battle & Chase, Command Mission, and DASH are the only Rockman discs that the vocal themes appear.

The Rockman X7 soundtrack has at least one of the vocal themes on it.

Drat, forgot about "Lazy Mind"

Amazingu Nov 26, 2007

Well, I don't know about any of you, but I got round to listening to both releases and, well, on the positive side, Rockman 8 is a good release. It's just a shame I don't care about the music AT ALL. It doesn't have the theme song or any of the Saturn exclusives and Frost Man's theme doesn't seem complete from what I remember, but I guess it's still decent enough.

The same CANNOT be said of the Rockman 7 album. This is an absolute DISGRACE.
Perhaps it's all the more painful because this is one of my alltime favorite Rockman soundtracks, but they really really screwed up here. As has been mentioned, the opening demo's still have the SFX in them. But those aren't the only ones! The Wily Stage Boss theme has some kind of rumble in the opening, Wily Final Form has the sound of his energy gauge building up, Forte's them has the sound of him teleporting in, and both the Joyful and Sad Message themes have dialogue box SFX in them! Absolutely unforgivable.

And then there's the fact that the Opening stage track is incomplete, it only loops the main melody for some reason, but the final part is ommitted, which is insane. As a countermeasure apparently the Stage Select theme, a theme that loops in 20 seconds, is regurgitated for 1.43 minutes! And that is the other major problem with this OST, some of the longer tracks fade out before they have completely looped twice, but the shorter ones are looped like 4 times or more, it's ridiculous!
I can't fathom what Capcom must have been thinking when making this, but it's an outrage. The SPC sets out there are much much better, and this miserable failure definitely does not warrant a separate purchase.

Shame on you Capcom!

You've got to be kidding me, that's like one of my favorite tracks!

And yeah, I knew of the SE crap from the samples at Tower Records and still bought it... sorry to hear it's botched even more. Am glad to hear rockman 8 is better for the wear.

The SE cropped up in some of the songs in the Rockman X1-6 box but I can overlook it there considering how much material you get. On a single OST release like this where you're paying more for less material it is unexceptable.

Really, it is a disgrace and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that's pissed.

Edit: Oh you got to be kidding with Frost Man's theme... I LOVE that track and yeah, not having the three Saturn exclusives is crap.

Edit: The Freezeman track has a weird crackle about four seconds in. I don't know if that's supposed to be a sound effect or if it's just a recording error, but it's no good either way.

It is pretty sad that fans can create better quality soundtracks than a game company and a record company. As one of my favorite Rockman soundtracks, this was a bit of a letdown. I really was going to purchase the soundtrack, but the SPCs do a better job.

GoldfishX Nov 26, 2007

Ridiculous...Even knowing about the sound effects, the looping thing is inexcusable.

Another vote for the SPC's.

Agreed.  I was sad to see that all the tracks didn't get the standard "twice-through-then-fade" treatment.

Also, now that we have a name for the composer behind MM8 (Shusaku Uchiyama), is his/her subsequent works any good?  Resident Evil 2, P.N. 03, and RE4?  I'm not expecting them to be remotely in the same genre that MM8 is, but I'd like to hear some more regardless.

Resident Evil 2 is great.

Amazingu Nov 26, 2007

I thought RE2 was done by Masami Ueda mostly?
Great soundtrack indeed.

I love P.N.03 too, but RE4's music was mostly meh.

I believe there are three people credited for RE2:
Masami Ueda, Shusaku Uchiyama, Syun Nishigaki

I don't believe anything in liner notes tells you who wrote what.

Amazingu wrote:

I like RE4's music in-game a lot, but listening to it outside of the game just doesn't work for me.

Anyway, since we have a name for Rockman 8's soundtrack has anyone been able to deduce Rockman 7's composers? I'm sure GX is curious.

XISMZERO Nov 26, 2007

T. "ANIE" N. (Tatsuya Nishimura), V-TOMOZOU (Tomozou Yomage), YUK (Yuki Iwai, Takayuki Iwai or Yuko Takehara)

Yuko Takehara was involved in ROCKMAN 6 so it's likely the same person.

These are the main names. I believe the other names are either fillers or lesser known members of the sound/effects team.

I got my soundtracks today and I see that you're talking about with Frost Man's theme. If you want to get technical, yes, the whole theme is there - but it's obvious what they did. The two loops don't flow into each other like the game rip, they basically copied and pasted the first part together twice and it sounds akward right in the middle because there is no transition like in-game. The very first part shouldn't repeat on the loop and the track is also longer because of it. Figures one of my faves is a little wonkey.

I have to scratch my head as to why this is because I can get the themes of the PSX disc myself without such trickery and it leaves me to wonder why they did this. Then again, the album sounds a lot crisper than the game rip.

Edit:

There also seems to be an unsual amount of dead air at the end of the "boss appearence" track (#13)

This justifies this soundtrack's existence.

Well, it would have if it was all there... screwed myself by saying that probably.

Kaleb.G Nov 30, 2007

It really sucks that they were lazy with these soundtracks. They might as well have just not released them at all if they were going to put shit-effort into them. I was thinking about buying these because the music is great, but I'll just stick with the game rips.

Ashley Winchester Nov 30, 2007 (edited Nov 30, 2007)

This is going to see like a dumb question but is there anyone who knows what tracks make up the "Robot Museum" medley on Mega Man VII? I'm wrting something up for the soundtrack and I wanted to mention it - I know the first part is Guts Man (DUH!) but I'm having trouble placing the other two "segments" - are they other robot master themes? Possibly from the levels of the robot masters that are displayed in the Museum? I have all the music from 1-6 in front of me but I'm just not getting anywhere.

Thanks, I thought I was hearing Snakeman in there... I was just thinking about it too much.

GoldfishX Dec 1, 2007 (edited Dec 1, 2007)

Okay, I got to hear RM7 for myself and it's not as bad as I thought it would be. The two message tracks are horrendous (I never listened to them on the gamerip anyway), same for the opening demo, and the Opening Stage bit is unforgivable (crap...), but the other SFX's are only right at the start of the tracks (Bass and Wily Final). In any case, the sound is definitely much improved over my gamerip and that probably makes the rest of the tracks in MM7 worth having as a "definitive version" (definitely sounds better and fuller than the SNES X OST's that were released, especially the drum/bass sections). Not bad, since it has a lot of my favorite stage themes in the whole series. Not perfect, but worth owning despite a couple horribly overlooked tracks.

Amazingu: To be fair, the gamerip I have and the SPC set both have Cloudman's Stage fading a bit early, just like the OST. Which is kinda okay with me, since I don't think I want to listen to 4 minutes worth of it.
