"Public" setting wasn't turned on, my bad.  Should work now.

Wanderer Nov 22, 2007

Thanks, Angela! Man, the music in this game is terrific... I think my favorites are Battlerock, Good Egg, Buoy Base and Gusty Garden.

Qui-Gon Joe Nov 22, 2007

I have WAY too many favorites to mention... the final level and battle are way up there, along with the timed purple coin runs.  I also really really like the quiet ambiance of... uhh... whatever the actual name of Random Crap Floating in Space Galaxy is.  Battle Rock is great.  Heck, the whole soundtrack is pretty much the best stuff I've heard out of Nintendo in ages.  I hope that Yokota branches out and gets to do the scores for non-Tokyo EAD Nintendo games.  I'm actually really curious if - when the OST comes out - we get to find out which four tracks Kondo did.

Awesome, thanks for pointing this out!  $29.75 shipped!

D
Good thing I read further into this topic. Besides, that NCSx place seems to be finished taking pre-orders anyway.

Just heard some of the Super Mario Galaxy music tonight; one of my cousins showed me the game when the family got together for Thanksgiving.

And, what did my aunt and two female cousins want to see?! WiiSports!! I guess it was awesome just to see them interested in video-games...but imagine wanting to go to the trouble to get a hard-to-find $200 console just for WiiSports!

It wouldn't surprise me if Kondo was involved with the remixes. Most of the stage music sounds like the work of just one composer. I haven't heard the final battle theme yet but now I'm looking forward to it. wink

What else has Yokota written?

Hey! Don't knock WiiSports! I've gotten more fun out of bowling and golf than I can count. wink

From a little bit of searching online, it seems he left Koei to work with Nintendo EAD Tokyo when it was formed, and has since done their two games: DK Jungle Beat and Mario Galaxy (aside: both fantastic games and I absolutely cannot wait to see what that studio does next).  Can anyone confirm that he also did the arrangement for the two live orchestra tracks recorded for Twilight Princess?

Edit: Forgot to mention, I also think that Wii Sports is well worth the price of entry for the system.  I've probably played it more than any other game in the last year.  There was about a six month period when I was playing it literally every single day.

Arcubalis Nov 23, 2007

Yeah, looking forward to Hudson's DecaSporta, a Wii-sports kinda knock-off with basketball and a buncha other games with no repeats from Wii Sports.

Apparently Nintendo didn't let them integrate Miis, so they made similar looking characters.  Should check out Destructoid's feature where they were invited to stay at Hudson for a week to see how the company works, etc., in Japan.  The owner of the site chronicles his experience, and it's a great read:

In the Acrubalis' interview, Kondo mentioned that his four tracks were very important one.  So I'm thinking maybe the final battle theme at least and maybe a level theme or two.  I'm really hoping they let us know which four he wrote in the OST.

Amazingu Nov 24, 2007

I got the game, so I'm eligible for the discount on the soundtrack at club Nintendo. Only I'm 100 points short!

Anyone got any Japanese points lying about the place?

Angela Nov 24, 2007

Ghostly Galaxy is up.  I added an ending to it, rather than the conventional fade-out; the song just lends itself to it so well.  :)

And just out of curiosity, when exactly do Platinum Club Members in Japan receive their gift?  Next month?

Thank you!  And I noticed your finishing touch on the track and what a perfect way to end it!

Now if I can just request one more track and I'll promise not to bug you again!  Buoy Base Galaxy!?

Wanderer Nov 24, 2007

Yes! Buoy Base is terrific. It's a real shame that it's used so little...

Angela Nov 24, 2007

Haven't reached Buoy Base yet, but I'll be sure to snag it the moment I get there.

In the meantime, I just finished Beach Bowl Galaxy.  This was easily the hardest galaxy to record thus far; not so much the on-land theme, but its underwater variation.  Mario can only hold so much air, and there's a sound effect that chirps to indicate when he's reached the half-way and three-quarter mark with his oxygen meter.  So I had to dive, record, and resurface four times, and then splice the four separate parts together.  That was a royal pain in the trousers, but I defy you to listen to the song and pinpoint where I made those splices.  Go on, try! ;P

Wanderer Nov 24, 2007

Buoy Base has an underwater variation as well. tongue

As for the underwater version of Beach Bowl Galaxy, I couldn't find any trace of splicing. Impeccable job!

I only heard it in that one galaxy.  Why they would ussuch a terrific piece on a one-star galaxy is beyond me.

Also, is anyone liking any of the non-orchestral chiptunes?  I love the ice version of Freezeflame Galaxy and the Bowser Jr. Robot Reactor boss theme.

Arcubalis Nov 24, 2007

Incase you guys missed it, I didn't name it properly, but this is the purple coin level track:

Granted, it's not as good as Angela's recordings, but it's something to hold you over until it's recorded.

Platinum members have to apply for the full soundtrack before December 2nd and it will be shipped around the end of january if I understand correctly.
I'm no Platinum member though, so I'm only eligible for the Orchestral CD, which is already available, but only until mid-january.

I'm not a Platinum member either.
The year before, I was Platinum, and all I got was a Tingle Balloon Fight DS game.

Sigh...
the platinum members deserve that 2 disc thing. After all, they spent a lot to get it.

If only Nintendo had told me ahead of time.....

How can other businesses like YesAsia, etc get their hands on Club Nintendo stuff anyways?

Ack, should've known with a title like "Buoy."  Well, I welcome a challenge. ;)

Finally reached Gusty Garden Galaxy, and I can see what all the fuss is about.  What an adventurously epic track; this ranks right up there with Good Egg as my favorite Galaxy theme yet.  As for the recording, I must warn you that the intro transition here is VERY obvious.  I couldn't get by with getting a clean intro sans the wind sound effect, so once the song starts proper, you're just gonna hear that wind die down immediately.

Making these recordings, and researching where exactly there are "clean spots" of music in the levels (of which there aren't many) has really made me appreciate the team's sound effects work in this game.  It sure don't make the recordings easy for me, but you've gotta applaude them for nailing every square inch of this world's soundscape to a tee.

Angela, you're really doing a bang up job with these recordings. Each one makes the wait for the official OST a little less painful. smile

I have this strange suspicion that they actually use the Club Nintendo points in the majority of the import software they sell; it's not like most of their customers would actually be able to use them anyway.  I'm torn - on one hand I'd be really annoyed if I tried registering a game I imported while in the states after I moved to Japan.  On the other, whatever practice they're using is allowing me to get the Mario Galaxy OST, so I can't be *that* upset with it.

Amazingu Nov 26, 2007

Yiippee!

Managed to scavenge enough points together by pestering friends about it, so I immediately placed my order for the Orchestral OST today! It should ship around the end of January. Can't wait!

Kenology Nov 26, 2007 (edited Nov 26, 2007)

Some recordings to hold us over until the OST release:

Buoy Base Galaxy - sadly under-used piece of music...  No underwater arrangement here, but we have to take what we can get!

Melty Molten Galaxy - why is this song so damn epic!?  O_o

Qui-Gon Joe Nov 28, 2007

Heads up: ncsx.com is now taking preorders for the one disc Club Nintendo CD for $23.  Personally I love a lot of the non-orchestrated stuff in the game enough that I would never want just the single disc one, but for completists or anyone who just wants the live stuff, check it out!

Angela Dec 1, 2007

I've got Buoy Base Galaxy up.  Regrettably - and try as I might - I just couldn't get a clean enough intro for this track, so I opted to leave it out.  Don't be too angry with me.

Also, I'm gonna have to work on the underwater variation at a later time.  I'm a little too lagged to edit this badboy out tonight.

I heard some of Super Mario Galaxy's music in context for the last night and I was pleasantly surprised by what I heard. It isn't the kind of release I would buy myself but as an outsider previously looking in it lived up to the hype expressed above in my eyes.

Escapizm Feb 4, 2008

Thanks for all this, sounds great. I just signed up for this...

I would really like to have small soundclips from Super Mario Galaxy, especially the little mushrooms. Any idea of where i can get them?

thanks
