Anyone know why, when I put the disc in, it initiated a system update?

The Wii needs software updates to run certain games. It needed one to work with Metroid Prime 3 : Corruption, I think because of the WiiConnect24 functionality. The Wii is an internet reliant console, without the WiiConnect24 set-up it won't function properly.

Oh, I didn't know that about MP3.  I never played it.  Thanks!  I'm still slightly curious what the update does.

I don't think these games would have been compatible with the wii released on launch day last year. The system updates enable the wii to play these games. Why they weren't compatible in the first place escapes me. Then again, I'm not particularly technologically-minded. Kinda unexpected for a 21 year old huh?

A software update ran when I put in Zack & Wiki.   Damned if I know why myself, but since I've never been on WiiConnect24 once since I'd gotten the system, I guess I should be grateful that the update is on the game itself.

By the way, has anyone who preordered from Gamestop gotten their automated call yet? It gave me a much-needed laugh on an otherwise down-trodden day.  :)

I did.  I'm surprised Gamestop got such a guest voice.

Yeah, the Japanese version had that too, I don't get it either.

It happens a lot with my 360 too, by the way.

I'm hoping they're going to update the internet browser (which I'm currently using) to be able to use Flash 8 not 7 like it is. The browser is pretty bad (no cut/copy/paste, MPEG's, Quicktime and practically everything else doesn't play), the list is looonng.

It doesn't help that Nintendo Europe is so damn crap. Some parts of the website haven't been updated for 4 years or more, Stars Catalogue = dire, rarely, if ever, responding to e-mails. It took them over 2 months to repair my GC. You guys in the states at least get a better service than we do in the EU. I know, I complained to NoA about the UK official Nintendo Magazine and I got a response within three days. Super fast by EU standards.

The version 7 Flash is due to Adobe not updating their Flash for Devices, which Opera Wii uses.
