A Japanese-only soundtrack for an American developed and composed game?
Ninety Nine Nights had a Western composer, abysmal sales and still got a soundtrack in Japan (only).
I think ignoring game pack-ins like premium boxes the likelyhood of any game (regardless of developer or composer) getting a soundtrack release is by far the highest in Japan (there are plenty releases of "oversea" game soundtracks there since some time).

Takayuki Nakamura "helped out" on that album, too, although I use that term rather loosely.
Prince of Persia Sands of Time and Warrior Within could fall under that category, too. I'm not sure if that branch of Ubisoft is US or Canada-based, but it's a similar situation.
I was just talking to Tomm Hulett, the producer of Contra 4, about this soundtrack release.
It is only going to be available with preorders of the game; it will not be available separate on Konamistyle. So likely, Kahori will not have it (I hope I am wrong, but it's not looking that way).
The only way to get it is to preorder the game somewhere. Tomm told me he is doing that himself, so if the producer of the game has to preorder his own copy, well...
He also told me something about the tracklisting that is sure to please, but he made me promise that I couldn't tell.
Well, that's too bad. I guess I'll have to think about how badly I want it.
Don't know if anyone saw this:

Soundtrack CD included with Japanese pre-orders.
Kahori has a spacer up, 6000 yen.

Read the thread dude.
Haha, wow. I'd been following this thread (with previous posts even). I guess I got a little behind.
Kahori has opened preorders for Contra 4 + OST. I got my order in! :D
So, has anyone had a chance to listen to the soundtrack CD? Any opinions? Was it remastered in anyway? How is that new arrangement of "Harbor"? Same as the one from MAGfest?
I received mine in the mail yesterday. I don't hear any difference in sound quality between this disc and the gamerip, which is a good thing. And the Harbor arrangement is SWEET. I haven't heard the MAGfest version you're talking about, but if that was also The Smash Bros, then I don't see any reason why they'd be significantly different. It's not a live recording, though.

Wait, the shooter queen didn't order this? Not to be a jackass but I figured you'd jump on ordering this because of the soundtrack.

My rep precedes me, I guess. But like I said in another thread (this one, actually), unless they added anything substantial to either game or soundtrack, then I would pass.
Nothing new was added to the game, apparently. Now, if they really DID remaster the soundtrack, then that's something I'd most certainly need to look into.....
It's still nice to have as Jake's first album. There's a nice bio both in English and Japanese about him. It will be great to have him sign it.
My impressions of the album just went live:
So, more than a year later... is this available anywhere? And just how is the quality, remastered or not?
maybe I missed this elsewhere, but whoa!

sweet.
still, I can't help but think how far away this is from the treatment given to Vincent Diamante's work on Castlevania: Order of Shadows. Sure, it's a cellphone game and sounds awful because it's MIDI, but those need love too!
Of course, it doesn't help that cellphone music doesn't really get released for free or commercially, and Konami Mobile is still a relatively new company and doesn't really have an guideline for doing so. Luckily, nothing can get in the way of Castlevania preservation:

(you may recognize that name from Cloud and PSN's Flower, both of which he did the music to)
(also, in case you're even slightly tempted to bitch at me for topic subversion, I believe Diamante handled the cellphone version of Contra 4, which is basically plain MIDI renditions of Virt's score and doesn't hold up nearly well through emulation)

Wondering this myself. Arcubalis wrote a solid review, but it'd be cool to get a comparison on the sound engineering work.

Definitely looking forward to this. They've been mum as to whether this will see a physical retail release or not. The Ocean remix is sounding pretty bitchin' in its current form; those bass guitar plucks and strums are spot-on. :)
This is going to be sick.
There will be a physical CD release. They're shooting to open pre-orders roughly around July 1st, give or take. They're planning to release some more demos on Youtube soon too.
Good to hear. Thanks, Tina!
