Before contacting Nintendo, I just wanted to see if I could find a quick-fix solution here.  My Wii is able to power-on from orange standby to green light, but the screen stays black; it doesn't even reach the "Health and Safety" screen.  My single Wiimote doesn't seem to be syncing with the system at all, since the lights don't turn on upon powering up.  Pressing any button on the Wiimote (including the Power button) either has the lights flash for the five seconds, or just flashes once per push.  Trying the sync button on the back of the Wiimote makes the 'mote blink its lights for twenty seconds, and still nothing happens, while pressing/holding the sync button on the Wii itself yields no results.

My question is, could this problem be relevant to the Wiimote at all?  I've had this happen a few times before, but it always seemed to correct itself by turning off the Wii, turning it back on, and 'shaking' the Wiimote to activate it.  Only this time, nothing is happening with the Wiimote, even with a set of fresh batteries.  Would just getting a new 'mote help at all?

Any suggestions?

Even without the remote, turning on the Wii should boot up to the health and safety warning message.  If that is not coming up, I have to conclude there is a problem with the system.

I'd agree. I'd recommend disconnecting all wires from your Wii and then reconnecting them to see if that helps. Maybe by cutting the cord completely it'll do something. Words of wisdom from someone who probably shouldn't be working in IT.

Have you tried holding down the power button for 5-10 seconds to turn the standby light to red?  I had a problem with my Wii once near the beginning and turning it all the way off that way fixed it.

Try blowing on the game disc, and also into the disk drive.

How..... NES-esque. o_O

I soft-clothed the discs and vacuum-brushed the air vents -- as well as trying the other methods you folks mentioned, but to no avail.  Actually, I should've been more specific in that the system goes from off-status "red" to on-status green.  I've never actually had it on stand-by orange ever, because I've never been on WiiConnect24.

I had heard a corrupted system save data can be a possible culprit.  The last game that was running successfully was Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles; I tried it just once, had a save file created, and then I shut off the system.  The next time I turned it on is when this happened.  Should I sue Capcom?

Well, this is the same company that released a Viewtiful Joe demo that deleted PS2 memory cards, right?  Or was that Sony's fault, since it came with OPM?  Whatever.  My suggestion would be to contact Nintendo at this point.

I was playing Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and my system is operating normally, so it's unlikely that the game disc software has a defective saving algorithm.

Maybe there was a power surge and your Wii got fried?

Hmmm, I hope things work out with your Wii! I personally have never had a problem with any Nintendo product, including the original NES! However, these days Nintendo (and Sony, and basically 75% of the world) is made in China, and I personally have not had good experiences with Chinese goods... so I guess I'm not surprised. I feel that you can't compare with the quality of Japanese goods. Nor American goods, nor European goods, but of course everything from China is SO much cheaper (and typically of much inferior quality). Unfortunate state of affairs.

Not everything in China is necessarily substandard.  It really depends if the companies have direct oversight or ownership of these facilities or just subcontracts the work.  Direct oversight or ownership tends to reduce manufacturing problems.

As far as I can tell, Nintendo does have direct oversight over the manufacturing process, so they don't want a high defect rate.  Since Nintendo's main markets are kids and families, they don't really want their products to have problems or their brand is damaged.  I haven't had any Nintendo fail on me under normal use.  Even under abnormal use (drop the system on the floor), Nintendo systems seem to have some durability.

Quoted for great advice. If there is a problem, a lot of them will be cleared by pressing the power button for 5-10 seconds when the system is on. If that doesn't work, try taking out the plug and putting it back in.

I actually had a similar deal with my external harddrive, but all I had to do was disconnect it and then reconnect, and it worked perfectly; I believe someone already recommended this; if you haven't tried doing so, I would if I were you.

Huh.  I went ahead and bought a new remote today, just to see what would happen.  Shockingly enough, it got me to the "Health and Safety" screen.  I successfully synced the new remote, and the Wii was up and running again.  Afterwards, I was able to re-sync the first remote, and now everything looks to be back to normal.

In my current state of paranoia, I straight away deleted the Umbrella Chronicles system save.  Then I lit up the hearth, threw the game disc in the fire, and screamed, "Die, Monster!  You don't belong in this world!"

Thanks for the help, guys.  Appreciate it. :)

How odd... I'm glad you got things working again though. smile

That's the T-Virus for you.  It seems Wesker has perfected the T-Computer Virus that screws up computerized systems.
