Soundtrack Central The best classic game music and more

Overall, things have been disappointing so far for me but there have been a few interesting things. The Resident Evil 5 footage has been amazing. I still haven't played 4. I just never got around to it. 5 looks stunning in both gameplay and graphics.

Dead Rising Wii - could be interesting. I'm skeptical (as always), but love Dead Rising. Still hoping for a full-on sequel announcement.

Prince of Persia 4 - I don't know if the new trailers are actually coming from E3 but it looks just wonderful. Art style is great and it seems to have that classic PoP gameplay. I hope it's polished and not all emo.

GTA DS - I'm surprised this took so long given DS sales figures. Yeah, the hardware could hold it back and GTA GBA was pretty atrocious but, handled well, I think this could be fun. The name, however, 'Chinatown Wars', suggests something very limited to me. Skeptical but curious.

Lego Batman - I know someone working on this so I've had some sneak peeks and this is going to be fantastic fun. Now it still follows the systems of Lego SW and Indy so won't convert anyone who didn't like those but throwing the Batman characters into the mix should be a great match. There are new E3 screens out now.

Infamous - anyone curious about this? Looks like it could be good.

Even just the couple of seconds in the Sony montage of Siren made me want to crap my pants.

I think that's kind of it for me so far. A lot of the stuff they were pushing in the conferences didn't really grab me but there's some potential buried in there. So what has grabbed you? Anything interesting I missed?

Not to be a pretentious ass, but that isn't Prince of Persia 4.  This is a new start of a different take on Prince of Persia.  It's an important distinction, particularly for the 'emo' complaint you made.  = P  I'm really looking forward to this one.

Nothing's sticking out to me this year about E3 aside how lame it is overall.  Being that I'll have a 360 long before I'll ever have a PS3, it's nice to know I'll have the option for FFXIII (yes I know, it's totally not cool to be interested in games by Square Enix 'round these parts anymore, but screw all of you).  And I guess it'll be nice to play Banjo Kazooie with higher rez graphics (I never played the original).

I also want to say that I think XSEED's lineup for Wii, DS, and PSP is far more promising than anything any of the three first party companies showed this year.

But yeah... aside from the FFXIII announcement, which was about a game that I don't see coming out ANY time soon at all, the E3 conferences were a bust.  Penny Arcade's comic today sums it up pretty perfectly.

Much of what I'm excited about is expanded news and coverage of already-announced projects; Resident Evil 5, Chrono Trigger, PS3 Bioshock, Lips, Dragon Quest IV, Mega Man 9, Street Fighter IV, MadWorld, LittleBigPlanet, Wario Land Shake It, Tomb Raider Underworld, Kirby Super Star Ultra....... MadWorld, in particular, is looking freaken dope.

Dead Rising Wii is a neat surprise, but let's hope they can pull it off.  Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty could be worth a download, and God of War III is something to look forward to.  How was Eternal Sonata on 360, by the way?  Now that it's coming to the PS3, it might be worth a look.

Honestly, the news of Rhythm Heaven coming over here is probably the best thus far.

(An E3 without a Metal Gear trailer is a soulless show indeed.)

Man, the new Rock Band 2 tracklist has me drooling. At least 1/3 of the songs on it are ones I've been dying for and it seems really balanced, so even as a glorified expansion pack (and it seems more than that...new 1p modes are definitely welcome), I'm excited for Rock Band 2. Glad to see they acknowledged that METAL f---ing EXISTS this time around (something that makes me still largely indifferent to the original RB on-disc line-up). Getting the vocals for Round and Round, Peace Sells, Battery and Painkiller is awesome. And My Own Worst Enemy is my friend's favorite song of all time, so...looking forward to some good times.

And I died laughing when I heard about the FFXIII announcement. Dunno if it's Square getting greedy or Microsoft shelling out cash, but it ain't good for Sony. Hope it knocks them off their high-horse for awhile.

MM9 sounds promising and I just got a new stick, so SFIV is eagerly awaited.

I didn't even know E3 was happening, so yeah, clearly I don't really care. As for PA, I have to ask what's up with their ping-pong comics? They had a slew of them, and none of them made any sense. Are they supposed to be funny? because if so, I rate them a failure. Are they supposed to be intelligible? If so, I again rate them a failure. Much like the Simpsons, I feel the charm of PA has been in an exponential decay for many half-lives... fortunately, there's always XKCD smile

cheers,

You've probably read about this already, but:

I'd be all over a special edition pack-in if the sticks prove liable enough.

I'm currently in love with mine (Hori Real Arcade Pro 2), so I have to hope there's a way to get it hooked into my 360. But I can really feel the difference from previous ones, even my trusty green goblin. Even better: DP's on the LEFT side for a change!

E308 so far...

I'm far and away most excited for Mirror's Edge.  I want this not to suck so badly.  I know it's EA and DICE, so the chances of them effing it up are high, but I'd really like them to be able to pull this off, because the idea is so freaking cool.

Outside of that, I'm pumped for MM9, SF4, RE5, Portal: Still Alive, CT DS, and the U.S. release of Rhythm Tengoku Gold.  The new PoP game looks pretty cool too, as does fl0wer.  And let's not forget Fat Princess, which has one of the best titles this side of Big Mutha Truckers 2: Truck Me Harder.

Also... to Angela, what attracts you to Mad World?  I like the art, but the gameplay looks really dull and repetitive from what they've shown so far.

Rhythm Heaven.

Jay Jul 17, 2008

Was there any word of a release date for Rhythm Heaven?

Cedille Jul 17, 2008

RE5 attracted my attention the best, but now I think it's pretty much the same as RE4...the only difference is it's rendered in HD (even this is far from certain in this upscaling craze, though).

Ditto, I sure don't make any gaming decisions based on any press conferences.

TBA, but they're apparently aiming for Q4 2008.

And this a bad thing.... how? I think most of us would be absolutely happy with an extension of RE4.

I'm also pretty happy that RE5 pursues the same course as RE4, as it was a great game and it revived the pretty stagnated series. The problem is Capcom seems to directly reuse motions and AI algorithms from RE4. While the graphics gets more 'realistic', the motions stay fairly unrealistic (which might not have been so problematic under SD resolution). I already made up my mind to buy it anyway, though.

Actually, Capcom have stated that the game uses RE4-like controls for this E3 build, but the final product will contain some unique control "surprises" apparently.

Alright, I went pretty wild today:

www.originalsoundversion.com

I tried to post about as many titles as I could that I was interested in, taking an audio-focused slant while still talking about the games.  Let me know if any of you appreciate this perspective, as it'll help me determine if I should take this approach more in the future!

KORG DS-10!

EDIT:  Regarding RE5, it had the longest lines for any game.  It looked absolutely beautiful, and I was told it plays just like RE4.  Most of the talk on the floor regarding RE5 had to do with the "White guy shooting black people" controversy.  People were saying they added lighter-skinned zombies into the E3 build solely to avoid this controversy.  Even more controversy!

Although I'm am highly anctipating RE5, I do agree with the above.  Too many of the animation routines look exactly the same as those used in RE4.  I hope Capcom's mixes them up more before March.

Qui-Gon Joe Jul 20, 2008

Am I the only one who thinks the animations in RE4 still look pretty good?  Maybe it's just because I haven't joined the "ZOMG HD GENERATION" yet.

Princess-Isabela Jul 20, 2008

banjo nuts & bolts retail wise,
dlc wise - banjo kazooie on xbox live arcade.
doesn't get much better than rareware masterpieces.
I'm also excited about viva pinata(love the original).
