Anyone here want a Nintendo Wii? Try checking your local Best Buy...the Best Buy closest to me has like, 5 of them...I guess the craze is beginning to die down.

Either that, or people are realizing that there aren't a whole lot of good games for it (don't misunderstand, there ARE good games for the Wii, but not many, and most of them are Nintendo's own franchises).

VALUE ADDED!

I know...I found one last month (for my mom), but I still ask clerks the obvious question and a few times they said they were in stock. One Gamestock said they got 3 full boxes of them.

I did look at the shelf the other day and I MAYBE came up with 6 games I might buy for it were I to get one for myself...And Brawl being the only definite. Not knocking it, but after a few rounds of Wii Sports and Wii Play and getting used to the Wiimote, I am starting to question the system's longevity.

Then again, the only reason I have a 360 is for the music games and their DLC. So says my finnicky loyalty to this generation of consoles.

I'm more excited about all the quality sub-$30 games being dumped on the PS2 right now...SNK's stuff, the new Pocky and Rocky (it has some kind of stupid name, but it's obvious what it is) and the Power Pro baseball series finally making it over here, with a full MLB license to boot. Seriously, the most fun I've had with a console baseball game since the NES days and RBI baseball 2...My friend and I played 10 full games of it today, which is almost unheard of for us (they go fast and you're constantly guessing on the run with the hitting/pitching style). Haven't even touched the vaunted Success or MLB Life modes yet (the RPG modes). I'm amazed they're pawning a game this deep and fun and fully licensed for $20 new. This is also out for the Wii, but I think I would prefer the Dual Shock 2 here.

It's funny that you mention that game in a PS2 vs. Wii statement, considering the game came out for both.

GoldfishX Aug 4, 2008 (edited Aug 4, 2008)

I don't own a Wii...It wouldn't factor in my consideration of getting one anyway. I own a PS2 and the game made a great, cheap impulse buy. In any case, feel free to use my Power Pro statement from before as input (given the choice between playing a game on the traditional Dual Shock and the Wiimote, I'd prefer the Dual Shock).

Also of note...PS2 copies of GGXX: Accent Core have completely dried up around my area, but the game is easy to find on the Wii. Now there's an exercise in frustration waiting to happen.

Its not a bad decision GFX.  I am still surprised by how many PS/PS2 games that I am coming across.  I just got into Odin Sphere, now the 70th some PS game I think I've bought?  I think in terms of library its got one of the strongest.

I don't see the Wii as being a long-lasting console, for myself at least. I have three games for it - Mario Galaxy (completed twice, 100%), Metroid Prime 3 Corruption (beaten once, going to play again soon) and No More Heroes (completed twice, 100%). Other than that... well, I guess I'm interested in Fatal Frame 4, but that's mostly for the soundtrack. I want to check out RE: Umbrella Chronicles, but I haven't found it cheap yet and I'm more interested in how the OST goes along with the game instead of looking for some RE action.

I'm very happy with the three games I purchased and see them all as being games I can play over and over again, but... they're only three games. I'm not into the VC anymore and none of the high profile games (Smash Bros., Mario Kart, etc.) interest me at all. I'm hoping for a few more standout games in the vein of killer7 or NMH - something unique and fresh that have some faults that are part of the game's charm - but I'm not holding my breath.

I like the Wii alot because it has alot of "under-the-radar" hits, similar to the Gamecube.  Pick these up:

Baroque (or the PS2, whatever)
Castle of Shikigami III
Dewy's Adventure (it's cheap and not bad for the price)
Opoona

... and what's this?  Ys Book I & II

I'm still having a hard time finding consoles in stores consistently and I regularly frequent a few Target stores in my area. I'm not a Wii fanatic (my girlfriend plays it more than I do), but I still find it astounding that stores still can't keep it readily stocked after being out this long.

Not to be condescending or anything, but...who shops for video-games at Target?! They're not good at keeping inventory, let alone keeping up with price drops.

I can still find a copy of Dawn of Mana there, but they still want the full $50 for it!

...

At this point, I too, am getting worried for the Wii's future. Last November, around Thanksgiving, when m cousin showed me Super Mario Galaxy and Legend of Zelda ~ Twilight Princess, my eyes lit up! But now I'm realizing there aren't a whole lot of good games out there for it, which is pretty much the same problems that the N64 and GCN had: They really only have 1st and 2nd party titles going for them.

I suppose I could expand my library by finding some good 'ol GCN games, and VC games, but you know, it just seems like everyone's just trying to live off of past accomplishments (Square-Enix!) Peoples needs to come out with brand-new games!

I haven't played my Wii in months. I have a few games that I've yet to rent (Zack and Wiki, Fire Emblem) but I always seem to go back to the 360 for my gaming. MadWorld definitely looks interesting though...

Considering that eBay sellers with high feedback scores are listing new Wiis with Buy It Now prices slightly below retail and free shipping, I think we can conclude that Wii scarcity is over.

I think the fact that Nintendo upped production from 1.8 million Wii's a month to 2.4 million has a lot to do with that.  That should be ample supply for the slow summer months, but not nearly enough units for the holidays.

Qui-Gon Joe Aug 4, 2008

I'm hesitant to get that excited about Madworld, just because I don't know what to expect of the gameplay yet.  As far as the Wii goes, I'm WAY more excited about other third party stuff, especially what Marvelous has coming up (King Story, Arc Rise Fantasia, Rune Factory Frontier, Ob...whatever that game from the Odin Sphere guys is called).

I saw No More Heroes there for $30! Has the price dropped everywhere by now like Killer 7 did after a few months?

Target is random with its price drops -- rarely you can catch some wicked clearance deals on end caps.

GoldfishX Aug 4, 2008

Yeah, I saw NMH for $30 when I was in Gamestop the other day.

Same here.  I'm hoping MadWorld has a lot of substance... and until I get an in-depth impression on hands-on gameplay, I'll remain cautiously optimistic.  The game looks absolutely awesome aesthetically though.

Also, Marvelous confirmed that Oboru Muramasa would be at this year's TGS.  That makes me very happy.

Bernhardt Aug 5, 2008

I'm looking forward to Mad World, Arc Rise Fantasia, and Vanillaware is supposed to be releasing a Japanese-themed game similar to Odin Sphere.
