Actually, it was released in March of 2004, almost 4 1/2 years ago.

Edit: Is it too much to hope and pray for a Xenogears remake?

SquareTex Sep 8, 2008

I've DEFINITELY been waiting for this. smile

Like many, I was taken in by DW7 back in the day, and was enticed by the ad in the manual promising that a redux of the 4th installment was coming.

...and then Heartbeat went bust, and no English version was forthcoming. sad

So YEAH, I'm all happy about getting another chance at this!!! big_smile

The Playstation version, of course.  The DS one just came out this past July.

DQ6 is definitely on its way to the DS, under the subtitle Maboroshi no Daichi in Japan and Realms of Reverie in the U.S. and Europe.  Whether it'll be a straight-up port of the Super Famicom original or a remake like 4 and 5 is anyone's guess right now.

Oh. I didn't know about the DS remakes of V and VI. This comes as good news, since I wanted to play the DQV remake but didn't have a modded PS2. Of course, I don't have a DS, either, but I'll probably get one someday.

SquareTex Sep 22, 2008

Well, now that it's out, I'd thought I'd check in with my fellow DQers. smile

Personally, I'm having a blast. The graphics are colorful and serviceable (great monster animation!), the music is splendid (...but why must it restart after every battle?!? *urgh*), and of course it's the classic simple-but-challenging gameplay we can expect from the series.

There something that supposed to be missing, though. Remember the party talk in DW7 and DQ8? Well, it was in the Japanese DS original as well, but it looks like it wasn't translated for the English market. (Shades of skits being cut from earlier English releases of the Tales games.) And if what I've seen over at GameFAQs, I'm supposed to be REALLY pissed off about that.

But I'm not. I'm having too much fun with this game to even notice it's missing, so I refuse to be pissed off. wink

So...how are ya'll enjoying this game?

SonicPanda Sep 22, 2008

Still waiting on my copy to arrive. I managed to find someone selling it less the S-E tax, but the tradeoff seems to be that they send it strapped to a lethargic turtle's back.

SquareTex Sep 22, 2008

Dang...and THAT would be one seriously painful tradeoff. :S

Well, I hope it won't be too long now.

I've only dabbled in the first chapter, but so far so good.  Coming off of FFIV DS, I find the lightening fast battles (especially on speed level 1) to be wholly refreshing.  The music's quality is absolutely unreal; if there's compression, I sure don't notice it.  The only thing I'm still trying to get accustomed to is the use of the thick accent dialects.  I assume that there's going to be more of it other than what's in Ragnar's Irish-toned chapter?

As for the party talk function, I've heard otherwise - that it actually IS in the game, fully translated, but SE somehow screwed up the code to make it work.  A pity.

Scottish, actually. It's Torneko's chapter that's Irish. wink
And that leaves Russian for Chapter 2 (THAT made for some awkward reading), and French for Chapter 4 (I think...I'm not there yet). smile

Oh...and for bonus chuckles, have Torneko appraise items as often as you can! big_smile

The mind boggles. Is there any chance they'll release an updated version?

You all do know that the PS1 remake of DQIV never made it to North America right? It's just because they (they = everyone on the internet (everyone = everyone minus me)) keep mentioning the DQIV on PS1 as if it's something you might have played. Well you havn't, unless your PS1 was modded and you imported the Japanese or Europeen version, or well if you live in those regions.
I mean do I keep mentioning how the PS2 remake of Super Robot Taisen Original Generations is superior to the GBA version? No. You know why? Because it's in japanese.

In other news, I had a bad day.

Honestly, I stalled on DQIV. But I've played through DQV and it's my favorite in the series. Because of the way the game is structured (and written), it's strangely emotional and compelling for a DQ game.

if you accept companies cutting things to make localization easier, they're just going to keep cutting
