March is a BEAST this year. It's like what November '09 could've been like.
Final Fantasy XIII and God of War III are the two video game biggies this month, though my anticipation for both is fairly low-key. (The former, because it's attached to a genre/series I've grown considerably apathetic toward - and the latter, because I still need some downtime after stepping off of the like-minded Bayonetta.) I'm trying to resist the temptation to double-dip on Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition, but the new Jill quests look like they might be worth a shot. I would've picked up the PS3 version had I known the Arc/Gem/motion-controlled wand thingy was going to be released alongside with it - as such, I just may re-buy the regular 360 version on the cheap, and nab the DLC separately.
I've held off on picking up anything related to Wii Motion+, simply because I've been waiting for a title that would truly make use of the tech. Could that title be Red Steel 2? The feeling of genuine swordplay in a video game is something most every gaming geek has been waiting for (c'mon, admit it), and the added use of gunplay can only sweeten the deal. A new Warioware release is always cause for celebration, but it'll be interesting to see just how well the do-it-yourself mechanic in the aptly-titled Warioware D.I.Y. works. I was thinking how much I wanted to play Lunar again, so Lunar: Silver Star Harmony is a gimme. (And I'll gladly plunk down the extra $10 for the bonus soundtrack CD.) While I missed out on the second in the series, I'm curious to see how [the now with 100% less hostess bars] Yakuza 3 plays on current gen hardware. People are dubbing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 as the next Modern Warfare; seems like a dubious claim, but I enjoyed the destructive environments and vehicle elements enough in the first one to give it a try. And finally.... Mega Man 10! Since I've yet to get my Wii to keep a proper sync, I'm gonna have to wait for the mid-month PSN release. (Come to think of it, that'd mean Red Steel 2 will have to wait as well. D'oh.) 360-only owners who need to hold out until the very end of the month for the Blue Bomber's latest adventure, you have my condolences.
Some highly anticipated movies coming home. It's going to be a wonderful month for fans of animation in particular; I'll finally get to check out Ponyo, and I'm dying to see The Princess and the Frog again. I wasn't planning on getting it, but the equal measures of cleverness and weirdness that make up The Fantastic Mr. Fox left enough of a lasting impression on me that I likely will. Given Disney's track record on quality Blu-ray Pixar releases, Toy Story 1 and Toy Story 2 surely won't disappoint. And then there's Sherlock Holmes, Ninja Assassin, Where The Wild Things Are, and Red Cliff - the last three I've yet to see, which may warrant rentals instead. (On that note, I suppose it's worth seeing the two-disc five hour International Version for the complete Red Cliff experience?)
Soundtracks, it'll be the Rockman 10: Uchu Kara no Kyoui!! Original Soundtrack and the Dracula Densetsu Rebirth & Contra Rebirth Original Soundtrack. Curious to see what Nobuo Uematsu's 10 Short Stories is about, and we'll see how well Danny Elfman scores the upcoming Alice in Wonderland.
