Time for the summer lull.  Quiet month, but I do know I'll be picking up the Knight & Day Soundtrack once it hits on July 13th.  I loved what I heard in the movie, and I'm inclined to say it's my second favorite film score this year after John Powell's own How To Train Your Dragon. (Too bad he couldn't go three for three this year with Green Zone.)  But K&D is fun, stylistic, and spirited -- definitely can't wait to give the CD a listen.

Lord of Vermilion II Original Soundtrack
A ticket of Persona Live 2010 (which seems pretty hard, as I even couldn't win the drawing of pre-ordering...)

Do you mean to say you had to enter a contest in order to pre-order?

Yeah, even to preorder a ticket,
1) We have to buy either this album or this DVD to get a coupon.
2) We have to apply for a drawing and win.

It's the month of the somewhats.

I'm somewhat interested in Dragon Quest IX, but I'd like to research it more and find out if it's weighted toward the multiplayer questing I'll likely never get to try.
I'm somewhat interested in Persona 3 Portable, largely because the changes regarding controlling party members and fatigue people were recently arguing about in another thread actually make it sound much more palatable to me, but I'd like to give the standard game another try before replacing it.
I'm somewhat interested in Blazblue Continuum Shift because I enjoy the atmosphere, music, and character designs, but I was pretty danged terrible at the first one and didn't play it much.

My brother-in-law's mind is made up at least - Crackdown 2 is all he can think about. I still need to borrow the first and try it for myself. After I'm done with Galaxy 2 and Metal Gear, though.

Holy shiznalackes, they're reprinting it: http://vgmdb.net/album/19573

'Bout time...

...

Anyone know what this's about?

Last Ranker: http://vgmdb.net/album/19567

By Yoko Shimomura...wow, li'l lady really wants to get back to work these days, eh?

The guy on the cover kind of resembles the main hero from Arc Rise Fantasia...is this look beginning to become popular in Japan? The actually masculine, short-haired look, as opposed to the opposite?

...

Super Mario Galaxy 2 OST: http://vgmdb.net/album/19454

Promo only? We'll see...they might ended up having producing enough copies for retailers to pick them up...wishful thinking? Possibly.

Capcom RPG for the PSP - I believe it was made by whoever's left from the Breath of Fire series, if I'm not mistaken.  Not sure why they didn't just do a BoF game, but whatever.  Looks pretty good!

And yeah, love Shimomura AND love how much work she's been getting lately.  I just hope she doesn't burn out and start sounding super samey.  She's been teetering a bit on the edge for a while, now... I was always impressed by how she could do a different sound for different styles of games and still manage to make the music sound like hers.  I don't want her to lose that...

Music:

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Original Sound Track - just need to find a place to buy it!
LORD of VERMILION II Original Soundtrack - hoping it's mainly Sakimoto himself and not all the Basiscape cronies, he's best when solo
Alan Wake Original Score - just announced, actual physical release by Sumthing Else!!
Last Ranker Original Soundtrack - anybody know if Shimomura is doing the whole thing or if she's just the "lead composer" like on Xenoblade?

Games:

Arc Rise Fantasia - maybe, need to demo it first

Herrkotowski Jul 7, 2010 (edited Jul 7, 2010)

I'm pretty sure the Lord of Vermilion II will feature Sakimoto's cronies (given they are all credited as arrangers on the VGMdb page). I'm looking forward to it though. Kudo and Kamikura know how to rock out so I look forward to what they do to make Sakimoto's orchestral work stand out more. (At least, given the music I've heard)

There has been no mention of any other composers, so I think that Shimomura is doing the entire Last Ranker soundtrack.

I'm not really sure what all is coming this month, but the only thing I'm pretty sure I'll be getting is the Pachislot Akumajo Dracula II Original Soundtrack.  I've pretty much given up on DVDs entirely, and I don't think there are any games coming out this month I'm supposed to buy unless there are some downloadable surprises.

Would this be out of high expectations for the music or general Castlevania fandom or just curiosity? smile  I thought all indications were that the first Pachislot Dracula soundtrack was nothing special.

Just general fandom.  The first one was nothing special.

Are the sculpt and paint quality as middling as in the first volume?

I'd say it's about the same quality or just slightly better than Vol. 1.  I don't have a problem with either set though (except for the missing character-damn random blind boxes).
