I know I'm jumping the gun a bit on this one, but whatever.  There's only a small handful of movies that have come out this year that I feel are worth owning.  Kick-Ass is most certainly one of them, and though the region A release officially touches down on 8/3, I was able to snag my Blu-ray copy today.  Really looking forward to giving this one a watch over the weekend.  I'll give Ghost Writer and Date Night a rental.

There's a smattering of potentially good games this month.  Metroid: Other M, Ys Seven, and Valkyria Chronicles 2.  I'll wait up on all three till a later time; replaying Mega Mans 1-6 and racking up gobs of BB/PP in Super Street Fighter IV are keeping me plenty happy at the moment.  I was really curious about the Gunblade NYC & L.A. Machine Guns double pack, but home ports of the games, no matter how perfect they are, make no sense unless you've got the behemoth sized, testosterone-driven machine guns to go along with them.  (Did I ever mention how I once tried to handle both player guns at the same time?  Yeah, I did.)

That's it for me, but it'll be an expensive month with getting the complete LOST series set, plus really looking forward to the Scott Pilgrim movie this month too...

Hm so from what I understand the U.S. set has four pieces while the Japanese release has six (an extra Chrono & Marle scene along with a duplicate of one of the five).  Me thinks I'll try to snag the awesome Frog piece on auction.

There are five unique figures, and the Japanese release will be a set of six assorted pieces, which presumably will be individually blind-boxed.  There is no guarantee that all of the figures will be represented in each set.

The U.S. release, however, will contain one of each of the figures excluding, as you say, the diorama of Crono and Marle pointing at her boobs.  Square's modus operandi with the U.S. releases of these figure series is to package all of them in a single window box.

Edit: Here's an example of how these figures are packaged for the U.S.

And, infuriatingly, to completely randomly NOT include ONE of the figures from the Japanese release.  They did it with every single set of Trading Arts Minis.

I wonder, too, why Square retains the "trading" appellation for the U.S. releases of these figures.  What is there to trade when the figures in one box are the same as those in every other box?

Ys 7 is already preordered. I'm a sucker for artbooks, and what I've heard of the soundtrack is great. Metroid and Valkyria 2 are probable, though I still have concerns about both.
That's about it on the month, but I just found out that Courage the Cowardly Dog has finally hit DVD stateside, and do I ever want some of that. OOGA BOOGA BOOGA!

I think you'll find she's holding up her pendant necklace, if it's based on the picture from the old SNES manual. Glancing at the others, though, the Crono vs Magus one is terribly disappointing. The truncated scale makes it look like Crono's taking a swing at Magus' favorite toy rather than the sorcerer glaring down from atop his fortress.

Only Kick-Ass for me.  I've fallen way behind on my "to get" list and have some catching up to do. August is kind of a slow month anyway so it all works out.

Upon closer inspection of the original artwork, I concede that my understanding of Marle's action in that artwork is mistaken.  All these years I had thought that that artwork was a depiction of Crono grinning approvingly of a lewd gesture by Marle in the dark of night.

Well, Metroid Other M is a no-brainer, even though I'm not that hot on Team Ninja.
I'm hoping Nintendo exercised enough control over them to keep their trademark bullshit levels low.

I've started keeping track of the games I play this year, and I'm really noticing it's helping me remember stuff that I would've otherwise forgotten.
For movies however, this is not the case, and so I'd totally forgotten about Kick-ass even though it was totally awesome from what I recall. I might need that Blu-Ray indeed.

Couldn't agree more with that statement.  Nintendo had better not let them f*ck this up.

Anyway, I'll be getting Metroid: Other M, Ys Seven LE, possibly the Simpsons Season 13 if I decide to break my DVD fast, and Nanosweep 10.

i like how it says. "not suitable for children under 15 years of age"... no one under 15 is going to care what CT is!!
its like a warning on used 8-track cassette "outer plastic shell may contain traces of LSD not suitable for children under 50".

I'll be getting:

Nanosweep10
GeOnDan Rare Tracks Ver. 1.0
Deathsmiles IIX Music Pack Contents Original Soundtrack

I MIGHT get some other things, but highly doubt it. My big trip to Tokyo is only 2 months away and I'd like to save a little more for spending money then what I have already.

Good call, since the dollar GETS YOU NOWHERE in Japan these days.  I ended up spending a lot more than I expected when I went this summer just because the exchange rate is such that I blew through the traveler's cheques I had way faster than anticipated.

Edit: oh yeah, and my August is looking like just probably Ys Seven.  Shouldn't be spending the extra cash right now, but I really do want to support XSEED for bringing us games that I never imagined we'd get and always wished for.

Cedille Jul 31, 2010

Deathsmiles IIX OST and some missing albums.

As I failed to get a ticket of Persona Live 2010 and still can't make it, I have an alternate plan to make my first try to go to a Comic Market which is held on the same date. It's just the second choice, not something I want to do so badly in such a bad financial state though.

Got the Chrono Trigger Formation Arts figurines today.  Look pretty good!

I agree with the Tomopop review that the facial expressions are priceless.  They add a lot of character to the dioramas and capture that feeling of a whirlwind adventure that I remember of the game.  I can't decide whether my favorite expression is Ayla's look of bewilderment or Crono's "DON'T SCALP ME, BRO" face.
