"Details are just now rolling in, but we have confirmed the following playable characters:

Pit (Kid Icarus)

Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid)

Zero Suit Samus (Metroid)

Meta-Knight (Kirby)"

Solid Snake!?  WTF?

Well, he was in the GC game "The Twin Snakes"!  Nintendo probaby figured that it wouldn't hurt to include a very popular character that's normally associated with the Playstation.

YESSSS!!!

I vow right now...I will f---ing MASTER Kid Icarus and procede to own people for pure sport if they get this game online. Though why do I see him playing a lot like Ness...

More Nintendo E3 pwnage...

Kojima must really like the series to have asked to do a cross-licensing deal on that.

While there at it, I'd love for them to let some other characters in:  how about Simon Belmont?  Or Mega Man?  Or that Sonic rumor come true?

Heh, for such a popular character, I don't understand why Nintendo has only released 2 Kid Icarus games all these years??  I do have to admit, the trailer looks pretty neat!  With online play, who knows, maybe they'll be giant matches with 10 or 20 players all at once!  Ah, such sweet chaos... oh, and I'm putting my money on Samus.  She's definitely the best eye-candy of the bunch (gotta love a woman who can kick ass like that big_smile

cheers,

I'll be curious to see how their servers fare with more than 2 players. Live connections for fighters have enough issues with just 2 people with "excellent" connections. I can imagine a four player Smash Brothers round with one person with a laggy connection slowing the game down. But such is the risk/reward of online play...

There was talk about a new Kid Icarus game for Revolution/Wii, but the rumor seems to have died off. Then again, E3 isn't quite over yet and it's been laden with even more farfetched pleasant surprises. The original Kid Icarus would probably rank in my top 5 NES games...It was always one of the more satisfying games to sit down and play through, despite annoyingness of the 3rd Fortress and those thieves that stole your treasures.

Cool! Zero Suit Samus is here!
I love this design.
I even have the figurine.  ;p

Anyways, I can't believe Solid Snake would be in this game,  I can't really imagine him "jumping" around with Pikachu.
He didn't even really "jump" or fight in MGS. Just sneak around.

He(Kojima) needs to bring his MGS series to Revolution. that would be news to celebrate.

Edit: I can't imagine Kojima would "beg" Sakurai to put SS in the SSB games at all.

Because Snake is awesome. I'd have preferred the psychotic Ninja (He just seems more Smash Bros.-esque), but Snake will do awesome.

His inclusion in Smash Bros definitely is a good sign (just look at all the Metroid and Fire Emblem games released after SSBMelee, now where is Mother 1&2 and 3...).

I really like how Pit is given a close combat weapon:  His bow splits into twin daggers for some of his moves.

I think Kid Icarus is only popular because of the massive nostalgia factor.  The game was wild for many reasons, and I love it for those reasons, but, realistically, it's a really bad game.  It just doesn't stand the test of time like the original Zelda, Mario, and Metroid do.

I really like this trailer.  One, they actually show you the difference between GameCube and Wii graphic capabilities, and two, the Snake/Campbell conversation is hilarious.

Another thing worth noting is that they've said SSBB will not use the motion sensing stuff for actual fighting.  In light of that, it now makes sense from a marketing perspective why this game is no longer a launch title (nevermind the logistics of its later development cycle).  They're not going to want to push a game at launch that doesn't highlight the console's new features.  Also, IGN now has links to a survey on Nintendo's Japanese page for people to submit character and music requests.

That's curious...Why do you say it's a really bad game? It's actually one of my favorite Nintendo games (not just 8-bit) The only "bad" thing about it, IMO, is the matter of ducking and dropping off the playfield (which everyone who's played the game has probably done). And getting clonked by an eggplant and having to track down the hospital. I preferred the structure and challenge of Kid Icarus to the openendedness of Metroid and Zelda (much like I always prefer the pre-Metrovania games)...It's much easier to just pick up and play through, without worrying about overworlds or backtracking.

The control is lousy, there's many questionable decisions, and it's immensely frustrating.  That said, I still like it for it's weird appeal.
