Watch this latest Super Mario 3D World gameplay video and be amazed by just how nuts EAD Tokyo went:

Every time I see more of this game, it looks better and better.

*Please note that I've linked the Japanese video above since the Japanese narration adds to the charm. If you really want to hear the boring English narration, go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnInWnRCTKk

It's EAD Tokyo, which as far as I'm concerned is probably the single best development studio in the world right now.  I have little doubt that it will be completely amazing, so I'm avoiding videos at this point.  Easily my most anticipated game of the year!

(Plus I hope we get another amazing Yokota soundtrack out of it)

OK, that just looks batshit ridiculous. Consider me as a "maybe" for picking up a Wii U at this point.

I'm sure soon Motley Fool will have an article about how this game will not save the Wii U, and Nintendo is doomed.
Have any of you read the crap they publish? They really live up to their name! Their articles are pro Monsanto and pro Microsoft. Some of the worst garbage I read in years! Just thought I'd get some anger out of the way smile

You know, I'm not really pro Nintendo (really haven't been since the SNES days) but I do have to admit the crap that does get thrown Nintendo's way does get a bit tiring... so I don't really blame you - or anyone - getting angry over stupid articles like that.

It's true that Nintendo's first party titles don't really excite me like they use to, aside from Metroid (my favorite Nintendo property), but I do get kind of annoyed by others that can let Nintendo fans have a little bit of joy about a title like this.

Still, that's the thing about gamers... you can pretty much have a civilized conversation with them until you get onto a site like GameFAQs. Yeah... about GameFAQs... I just don't get the point of spewing that much trash at other people with the same interest because of a difference of opinion...

I want want want to play that. The question is...what else would I do with the Wii U?

The correct answer to that would be: The Wonderful 101.

Wow, looks pretty good! Haven't been really excited about the new Mario titles lately, but this looks like it just might make me want to pick up Wii U at some point. In general I feel the new Marios could have been more challenging, or maybe I'm just better a player than in the SMW/SM64 era. This time everything looks promising and it seems they have introduced many new gameplay elements which is a good thing.

I'm excited for this one. It's the only Wii U game I'm really looking forward to (I still have it in the box). I don't think it's going to save Nintendo this generation, but it's fantastic ammo to have against two high profile system launches.

I have found pretty much every 3D Mario game up until this point either annoying (64, Sunshine) or just plain boring (Galaxies). This one seems to make enough concessions to the old school crowd to make it worth picking up, without being full-on 2D or 3D. Kind of like 3D Land on steroids, which is nice because I loved what little I played of that.

On an off topic note, Sonic Lost World looks really well done. If I play through this, I might think about picking that one up later on.

The challenge in the more recent Mario games comes from the "post-game" content. They make beating the game fairly easy, but if you want to get everything, that's where the challenge comes in. If you want a challenge, try getting all of the green stars in Mario Galaxy 2 or unlocking the hidden last stage in Mario 3D Land.

Might want to read some reviews of that one to make sure you know what you're getting yourself into...

It's quotes like this that make me sad that I can't look at anything Sonic related and not be skeptical...

Okay, it's official...Up until now, the Wii U has been in nothing but a beta test. 11/22 (the day Super Mario 3D World came out) is essentially the console's REAL launch. The cat suit is seriously overpowered though. Gives ground attack, air attack AND climbing ability? Too good.

I haven't played much of 3D Land, but the game has been everything I hoped for so far. Done with the first level so far.

Amazingu Nov 24, 2013

Just finished the final boss battle yesterday, and now going through the game to see what I missed and to wrap up the extra stuff.
It's definitely excellent, but I can't help but feel it's a tad simplistic after Galaxy.

GoldfishX Nov 24, 2013

I'm just happy to be controlling a 3D platformer with a Dpad. I think that was a huge reason I was never too keen on 3D Mario before, I feel like I have way more control using a Dpad and using a button to accelerate.

Hitting some annoying spots-The level where you ride the Sea Monster (horrible controls) and the one level in World 3 with the moving fences is pretty obnoxious. And blowing on the gamepad to move the platforms is really stretching it, Nintendo...

What characters are you using? I used Peach through World 1 and switched to Toad up until now (mid World 3). Definitely going back to Peach for the moving fences level.

I started out with Mario pretty much exclusively, because, well, it's a new Mario game, but I actually switched to Peach halfway through and I've been using her as my default character. She makes hitting the top of the goal post pretty easy, and the fact that she can float a bit has saved my life more than once.

She's the slowest character of the bunch though, which can actually cause trouble in levels where speed is key.
