When I'm the only one that shows up for work on the day after Thanksgiving, things like this happen...

I was watching a couple custom GH videos the other day which had VGM tracks:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95cA8spUfSc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duX5pwOAJ0s
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnUcXlSV3Fk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgXG4Iiee-Y

So I figured, what VGM tracks would I use to make up a GH line-up? Even if I'm wasting my time, it's still a good VGM rock recommendation thread. These were what I came up with over the course of the day:

Tier 1 – Amp Warmers (If You’re Lucky)
Sophia Take 1 (from Battle Arena Toshinden 2 OST)
Cursed Desert (from JDK Band 1)
Practice Makes Perfect (from Konami Sound Racing History Perfect Selection)
Motto! Motto! Tokimeki ’99 (from Tokimeki Memorial 2 Vocal Collection 1)
Encore: Legendary Theme -Album Version- (Gitarooman OST)

Tier 2 - Opening Acts
Regret (from Soukaigi)
Memories of a Summer Island (from Kukeiha Club)
Red to Blue (from Mr. Bones)
Ken Stage (from Street Fighter Tribute)
Encore: Can’t Help Fighting With You (from Fantastic World of Super Mario Brothers 3)

Tier 3 - String Snappers
Moon Over the Castle (from Gran Turismo 2)
Factory Base (from Gate of Thunder)
This is Where the Spirit Becomes Certain (from Wild Arms Rocking Heart)
In the Blue Sky (from Sega Rock Vol. 1)
Encore: Otherworld (from Final Fantasy X OST)

Tier 4 – The VGM Shred
Lu Bu –DW Fire Mix- (from Shin Sangoku Musou 3 OST)
Vapor Trail Arrange (from Wind Fang and Vapor Trail OST)
Control Crisis (from King of Fighters 97 Arrange Sound Trax)
The Warhawk (from 20th Anniversary Tribute to Game Music)
Encore: Ys IV Super Megamix Version 3 (from Ys IV Perfect Collection Vol. 3)

Tier 5 –  Return of the VGM Shred
The Machine of Rage (from Battle Gear III: The Edge)
Rambling Feather (from Lost Child Side B)
Last Decisive Battle (from Shin Sangoku Musou BB OST)
Silent Desert (from Ys Origin Super Arrange)
Encore: FFVI Decisive Battle (from The Black Mages)

Tier 6 – The VGM Shred Returns from Hell
Evil Monastery (from Lords of Thunder)
High Powered Drivin (from Cyberorg)
Riff Riff Orbit Long Version (from Guitar Freaks and Drummania Instrumental Collection)
Mighty Obstacle –The Wind of Zemeth- (from Ys VI Vocal Collection)
Encore: Decide in the Eyes –Mute City- (from F-Zero X Guitar Arrange)

Special Tier –Konami Battle-
Battle of Battleships (from Konami Shooting Battle Perfect Selection 1
Great Heli – Ruined Based (from Konami Battle Perfect Selection The Best)
Iron Blue Intention (from Dracula Battle Perfect Selection 2)
Try to Star (from Konami Shooting Battle Perfect Selection 2)
Encore: Bloody Tears (from Dracula Battle Perfect Selection 1)

Special Tier –Guilty Gear-
Drunkard Does Make Wise Remarks (from Guilty Gear Isuka)
Death and Republic ~ Meet Again (from Guilty Gear Original Sound Collection)
Tears are Forever (from Guilty Gear XX#Reload Korean Version)
Simple Life (from Guilty Gear XX OST)
Encore: Holy Orders (Be Just or Be Dead) (from Guilty Gear X Heavy Rock Tracks)

I was going to do like GH2 with 8 tiers getting progressively harder, then I figured Guilty Gear and Konami Battle were going to take up a lot of the harder slots anyway and just gave them their own tiers. So I basically made 3 "Final Tiers". ;p I also tried to make the encores among the more recognizable ones, as they are in the GH games.

So, what do you think would make good GH bait? Remember, your list should feature the guitar throughout the majority of the song(acoustic or electric...I left off many tracks because of long dead periods with mostly synth), should not have more than 1 track per album and your tiers should go from easiest (slow-mid tempo, simple stuff) to hardest (fast, complex, nasty solos).

Who knows...Maybe someone who can slap together decent custom GH grids will see these...;p

Sounds like it would be a good thing, considering that I dreamed up the exact same idea a few months ago, that it would be cool to have a Guitar Hero game made up of VGM tunes...

Didn't have time to start listing mock-up tracklists though, since my job entails actual manual labor, so daydreaming time is limited.

Even better...With the current craze, if these actually get made and shown on Youtube = good exposure. I bet people might actually look for these, had they been in one of the actual GH games. But the whole chart-making process is foreign to me and I don't have the goods to play customs/back-ups (yet), so...

I guess it would be cheating putting that Guitar Freaks track in though, huh, since that was probably what spawned GH. I ended up following the scent and discovered the Instrumental Collection was a pretty awesome collection overall. Riff Riff Orbit = sick shit.

Riff Riff Orbit is indeed awesome; it's essentially a medley of all the really good stuff that Izumi contributed to the series.  You should hear his previous medley, "Riff Riff Paradise," if you haven't yet.  It's just as awesome.  As for Tokimeki's Motto! Motto!, I think they featured it in Guitar Freaks at one time.  I'd have to check that out.

Great tier song listing, though.  I'll have to see if I can't get one together myself.

Great list, but needs some Rockman Zero/ZX series representation. There's enough guitar tracks there.

This was one of the culprits where I felt like there was too much synth. I had, like, 3 tracks in mind, but not much for straight-forward guitar-simming. Just like the game...There's great music, but it doesn't always translate to good gem patterns. Black Mages were similar...Lot's of cool individual guitar parts, but too many synth leads (Of course, I HAD to put something in and Decisive Battle wasn't my first choice, but it was solid enough) Also, I tried desperately to avoid anything that loops and or/fades, which the Zero/ZX Remastered series tends to do.

(BTW, feel free to add or make up a list...Even if it's just a couple tiers, I was hoping this wouldn't be just me showing what I do when no one's around at work).

I want to make up some awesome list, but I really don't know what I'd put.

Maybe a "dedicated to SSH" section, and we'd put in an assload of Atelier Iris arrange tracks to appease me. tongue
