Some of the tracks, expecially "Dusty Desert - The Ruins", "Wave Ocean - The Water's Edge"...so damn good, wow!

Do we know who's head of the composition? I heard Senoue wasn't on the project...

Godai Nov 27, 2006

I've heard Kobayashi and Minobe so far...

GoldfishX Nov 27, 2006

I don't know, but I'm getting the feeling it's half Senoue-style rock and the other half PSO/U-style compositions. So, I guess it would be some combination of Senoue, Kobayashi, Tokoi and Kumatani.

Actually, the list of composers for Sonic Heroes was rather diverse (even if Senoue did more than half) so it could be any of these guys/girls: Jun Senoue, Naofumi Hataya, Hideaki Kobayashi, Keiichi Sugiyama, Teruhiko Nakagawa, Yutaka Minobe, Mariko Nanba, Fumie Kumatani, Tomoya Ohtani.

Good stuff, whoever did it. There's enough quality across the board I can't even begin to peg favorites yet (though "The Water's Edge" probably wins ATM). Only downside: Theme of Sonic - His World is the pits.

Can't wait for this soundtrack. And there's still two more Sonic games to go (the PSP one and the Wii one). And Naganuma hasn't done anything since Sonic Rush, save for a track or two on Sega Rally 2006. Heh heh...

Awesome news.  Can't wait to hear it.  Any samples floating around yet?

"Total tracks 93 tracks, 197 min long. (for 3 discs' total)"

Interesting...the rip tops out around 135 minutes and 50 or so tracks.

Daaaammm indeed...Although I get the feeling most of that lost time is probably just short (1-2 minute) event tracks that weren't ripped (probably for good reason...Probably had voiceovers or something). They've become a staple of recent Sonic OST's unfortunately...

Be curious to see the composer breakdowns...

Go Sega! Keep 'em coming!

Well, having gone through the sample's at the first post's link, I'm...underwhelmed. It's about the same level of gold-to-bleh ratio as Shadow was, except without the advantage of sounding like Sonic music...instead it's more Nilsen/Jacques-styled experimentation into various styles, with mixed results. More than anything, it seems to prove that Senoue is the soul of latter-day Sonicana, and his influence is sometimes felt, but largely missed.

No. Adventure 1 and Heroes are still the best by a wide margin. That said, the good ones were:

Crisis City - Tornado
Dusty Desert - Quicksand
Dusty Desert - The Ruins
Flame Core - Volcano
Radical Train - The Chase
Accordian Song
Soleanna Castle Town
Soleanna Forest
Soleanna New City
Town Mission 3
Town Mission 4
Wave Ocean - The Inlet
White Acropolis - The Base

The rest...eh.

Hmm...looking through that list, I notice Tomoya Ohtani had his(?) fingers in all but four of my favorites from the rip. Well played, guy(?). Can anyone tell me if the CD versions are modifications of the in-game stuff, like Adventure 1, for instance?

As much as I like Jun Senoue, from the catchy Sonic Adventure, he's unofficially led the Sonic Team downhill each game when it comes to music and sound design. How many of the tired riffs can we stand?! This is why I'm surprised I can't find his name anywhere on this new Sonic album...

Does anyone know why Senoue wasn't commissioned for this new Sonic game? Is working on something else? Maybe the GameCube Sonic?

He's the sound director, the head of the whole team.

I was dead right on Kobayashi's involvement here...He's got a good bit of the soundtrack under his wing (far more than I originally thought). Ohtani seems to be the rocker in place of Senoue (fooled me) and I recognize Mariko Nanba from Panzer Dragoon Saga and having bit roles in other Sega works.

Between PSU and this (plus with Naganuma and Senoue in the wings), Sega's soundteam is officially on fire. I can't wait until my copy comes in.

Only thing that scares me though: All those "Event" themes on the OST. Not a good sign.

Download the 5 CD gamerip that's floating around. A LOT more missiong music to be found here. However I will agree that theres a LOT of even music to be found. That's mildly annoying, its just that the music is so darn good.

This brings up a general trend which we'll probably be seeing happen a lot more of as time goes on...  (a.k.a. the Shenmue II effect).

When more games start using a shitload of music (5+ discs) and tons of interactive blending ingame, we'll probably stop getting complete osts, which would completely suck if that started becoming the Norm, but hopefully it'll stay the Exception.
