Listen to the samples. Quality arrangements are here once again. They've even thrown in a sax in there! MASA on guitars?! This album is true to be one of those rare gems!

Godai Sep 17, 2006

Hah!  Ryo Yonemitsu is on there, awesome.

XISMZERO Sep 17, 2006

I'm already pumped for this "Fate Breaker" arrangement. I also hear tons of infectous melodies and riffs here. Can you believe there are 17 tracks slated for this disc?! Most arrangement albums max out at 10. This album will certainly be special and a starry cast of musicians to boot!

Yonemitsu's arrangement of "Battle vs Lord Blazer" is schweeet.

Copied from the other thread about the WA arranges (but that's cool, since this album almost demands a second thread, as well as the real estate in my sig):

"Only sample I didn't like was the Zed one...Hopefully that's just a bad part of the arrangement in the sample. The Yonemitsu ones were awesome, as expected, but it sounds like an even effort all around. And I'm pretty sure I recognized MASA's guitar in track 5. "Fatebreaker" sounds like it might be something from old-school Kukeiha Club. My main question was answered: Instrumental arranges for the vocals."

And that's about as in-depth I want to look at this album at this point...I don't want to listen to those samples TOO much. October 4th feels like it's months away as it is.

The fact that both Ryo Yonemitsu and MASA are involved on this project is reason enough for me to order this gem. And after hearing the samples, I'm knee-deep in anticipation and excitement. I really think this is going to be one hell of an arrange album. Oct. 4th can't get here fast enough!

So far, I'd have to this CD falls somewhat short of shattering my expectations (although surpassing them would have been fairly unrealistic, to be fair). For the most part, it lacks intensity and I think a number of the originals had more "oomph" to them (especially the arrangements for G's Roar, Leave it to Me and Battle Force...And Zed's Theme still gets a big "WTF", although it is arranged in kind of an interesting way). For a couple (namely, Dungeon Type 2 and Battle Force) I was hard pressed to tell the difference between the originals and the arranges...More like the originals with techno and solos added on. Extremely disappointing there.

Best track, by far, is "Battle VS Toka and Ge". I think everyone who's familiar with the original is going to be surprised by how this one turned out. Shame the guy who did it (Nao Tokisawa) only did the one track and is basically unknown otherwise. This arrange style was really what this album needed. He really takes the original to the next level. Yonemitsu's arranges were great as far as enhancing the originals, though I'm not sure how I feel about that sax in "Battle with Lord Blazer"...That should have been an awesome guitar line going through there instead. "At the End of the Wilderness -Detonator Version" is vintage Yonemitsu in top form though, especially once the acoustic-ish guitar pops in. That's probably my second-favorite after Toka and Ge. Tomita kind of redeemed himself with "This is Where the Spirit Becomes Certain"...It's both faithful and arranged with a nice amount of style. The acoustic breaks and drum skips work well with the guitar handling the main section of the melody. Windward Birds is almost completely redone from the light pop song it originally was. And Fate Breaker is still the Kukeiha Club jazz-fusion coolness it was in the sample.

Wild Arms Battle Perfect Selection, this definitely isn't. As it is, I can't say I enjoy it anywhere near as much as Red Lucifer Rising or Jailbreak, but it is a worthy listen for the standout tracks mentioned above. Sucker's long too...About 75 minutes and each track runs 4-5 minutes. Was sure a number of them would be in the 2-3 minute range.

I haven't picked it up yet but from the samples this album is sounding DAMN hot.  And with Yonemitsu back out of the woodworks??  Shiii...  Sign me up.

Wow, this is awesome.  Unfortunately, I am only familiar with music from the first Wild ARMs game.  The Transquillo tracks sound like Jean Michel Jarre.  Overall, the arrangements are very "modern," which is a good thing.  My major complaint with recent rock projects like Black Mages was that they sounded so dated.  People, we have finally emerged from the 1980s!

Antignition Oct 12, 2006 (edited Oct 12, 2006)

All the Yonemitsu tracks were fantastic...hell, all of the tracks were fantastic. I enjoyed every song on this album, just not all of them equally.

Battle VS Lord Blazer and Gunmetal Action win it for me though, it's amazing that the subtle changes in the arrange for Gunmetal Action made the song excellent, whereas when playing Wild Arms 3 I was sick to death of that song.

I am *very* dissapointed Crossfire Sequence wasn't included though, top 5 favorite VGM songs of all time and I felt it could have led itself to a rock arrangement very well.

Oh well, at least they got There's Only One Family Named Schrodinger on there, composition wasn't my favorite on the CD, but that was my 2nd favorite song on the Wild Arms Advanced 3rd OST.

This is some good shat.

Alright I gave this album a few spins (ehm winamp spins)....One word for me to describe it: 'anticlimatic'. Not as in dissappointing. Im not familiar with Wild Arms music so I had no expectations. Most of the tracks didn't do it for me, but there are four tracks I digged and also, I have a strong opinion on them:

-Track 1 starts out great with Ryo-class downtempo (a la Family of Darkness of Ys 4, my favorite track of vol.2). Then the guitar kicks in, and Im ready to get goosebumbs, but then (only 1 second later) suprise, it goes in a totally other direction I expected AND hoped for. Really really weird experience. The rest of track fluctuates again between awesome and hmmm.
-I had this with the last track too. The beginning is excellent, and the entire guitar sequence rocks, but the synth part really didn't do it for me, though overall I like it more than track 1.
-Well, next is track 2. The guitar here is just too sweat, goosebumbs again people ^^. But again, the rest of the track is slightly less interesting compared to this, especially that weird electronic vocal-ish synth...the guitar comes back a few times fortunately so it's still worthwile, though not the flawless awesomness I hoped for.
-The last track I digged was track 7 (Battle VS Liz and Ard). Wacky track with a lot of layers. Occasionally the multiple layers are a bit overkill, almost as if the mixing wasn't done properly. But overall solid and rockin'. Best track? Yeah!

Well, these are my thoughts on it...now whether to buy it or not for just 4 tracks...
