It's been years since I have played the game, but I recently got this soundtrack because I remember liking the music back then when the game first came out. This soundtrack is as great as I remember it, and brought back many memories. So nice and relaxing to listen too. It's something I could just go outside and relax with. Even though I love Kenji Ito's music I wouldn't mind if Hamauzu came back to do another Saga OST. I think it would be neat if they composed the next Saga OST together. Anybody love this soundtrack as much as I do.

Welcome to 2007 (although these would have been valid as far back as 2005 as well).

I'm a very casual fan of Saga Frontier II's score. It's just something I would occasionally flip on in the background (rather than actively listen to) and the many incarnations of the main theme kinda got old. I have my favorites from it though (Angel of Death, Interlude and the Field Battles). Impressive they got it onto the PS1, to say the least.

I was fiddling around with the idea of buying the copy of SFII Zane recently had up for sale but decided against it. The music is good in its own right but I would have really been buying it for all the wrong reasons - I'd be buying "to have it" not "to enjoy it."

I like the battle themes, the special battle themes "Obsession" and "Archenemy" as well as a few other pieces: "Captain" and "Theme" are at the top of my list.

I know some ppl complain how Hamauzu gets to score everything besides Square's triple A titles - but I don't look at it that way. Granted, I disliked SFII myself but Hamauzu's music is easily the best element of the game and really that's the case with a lot of the games he's composed for - still, I doubt SaGa Frontier II and Unlimited SaGa would come up much in conversation if it wasn't for Hamauzu.

As a RABID Hamauzu-ite, I'd like to say good choice in music!!  I remember first hearing SFII and thinking that I'd never heard anything like that before.  I obsessed over that soundtrack for a good year I think.

If you like his style, definitely check out Unlimted SaGa, and the tracks he did for Musashi: Samurai Legend are definitely worth taking note.  There's a release from him coming out soon so I am very excited!

Apparently you're unaware that Hamauzu is composing the music for Final Fantasy XIII? Check out the 1 minute trailer: the music is hawt.

(and that trailer's a year old...I bet Hamauzu's about done the score by now...)

I was aware of that fact, I was merely refering to past games.

If that was the case, please use past tense to make that known. tongue

Also, Hamauzu did a fair amount of the FFX songs. I thought those were decent.

Well, I was sticking to CDs/OSTs that were currently available and scores for PS1 and PS2 games when I made this statement. Guess I'm a bastard for not making that clear either tongue

True, but I was referring to full-blown Hamauzu soundtracks - which would exclude FFX and FFXIII (he's working with Shimomura on that, correct?). Again my bad... didn't realize anyone was going dissect my posts (I should have known better).

Nah...FFXIII is all his, and FFversusXIII belongs to Shimomura. I don't THINK there'll be any crossover...?

Ah, ok, I see where I could have gotten wires crossed on that one.

Many of the great Square-enix scores have come from titles that seem to fly under the radar.  Case in point:

Dew Prism
Unlimited SaGa
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
Another Mind
Soukaigi
and of course, SaGa Frontier II

...just to name a few. (I'm sure there's a ton I'm missing)

Samurai Legend Musashi / Musashiden Blademaster 2 (do the Japanese not like the word "samurai" anymore?) has a great soundtrack, indeed one of my favorites, but I do think the game was more well publicized than the other aforementioned releases.

And, I think Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles received some pretty good press too, otherwise it wouldn't be getting a sequel...

...

As for SaGa Frontier II OST, the first disc has most of my favorite themes, and all of the battle themes are good, but I never had much interest in the material on the second and third discs other than that.

I suppose I'll eventually give a dedicated listen to the other two discs, but I just like the first disc so much...never really got all that far in the game, so I haven't put much of the music into context.
