I don't know what GUIN SAGA is, but apparently Uematsu is handling the music:

Anyone familiar with the GUIN SAGA story? Sounds... interesting.

If it's anything like COCC-11227~8, then I'll have to check it out. It's a 2 disc set with music based on the book series. The first disc is hard rock and the second is mostly piano. I don't know who the composer is, but Yoshitaka Amano did the artwork.
Ah, Amano did the art for the CD release? That's kinda interesting considering how, as a book, the story and artwork are the two main features. You'd think the original artist would have done it.
To get off topic for a moment, Amano was at Comic Con this year. I saw him, and I got caught up in doing other stuff and didn't end up getting over to the booth in time to line up for the signing. Would have liked to have had him sign my FFIV figurines.
Anyway, hopefully the creators had some input into how this album you're talking about turned out, and hopefully that means Uematsu will have some good direction on this one.

Sorry for going a bit OT, but FFIV figures? Do you mean the mini trading arts figures? Were there any others larger versions released? Just wonderin cause I don't know of any others, and if there are... me want now. =p
Trading Arts, yeah. My bad. ;D
Well, the soundtrack is out. Any impressions?
I haven't heard the whole thing yet... but the first track alone is Uematsu's best work in years.
Currently listening to this. Will have my own take on the album soon.
Also, high-five to Herrkotowski.
This is a terrible album, there are a couple good gems on it but otherwise horrid.

Any justifications for that statement? I've only heard a few pieces, but was very impressed.
It's bland and tasteless and lacks any sort of decent instrumentation.

I wouldn't go that far. There are lots and lots of boring tracks on here, but that's really to be expected (IMO) with TV anime. Music timed for special scenes is bleh.
Opening theme, "The Thread of Fate" (LOL dewprism?), is fantastic. Sounds like Joe Hisaishi. Specifically, sounds like Princess Mononoke main theme. Chord progression specifically.
"Decisive Battle" is cool. I think I heard a bagpipe?
"Driven into a Corner" is repetitive, but as for your statement about lacking good instrumentation, I have to disagree. This song has hot instrumentation IMO.
It's not a great album, but IMO it beats Blue Dragon. Let's put it this way: It does not diminish my hope for a good FFXIV OST.
Ramza
i agree with justin, that shit is boring
except the battle themes, the rest is prosy
