Thanks for the info!  Any impressions of the music from the new game?

the Ys 7 mini album sounds fantastic imo.  I hope it comes over here.  It can be another game I'll buy and not have the time to play heh =p.

Yes!  So far it's shaping up to have a great soundtrack  (I'd be very surprised if it didn't).  Admittedly, I've been a little busy the last couple of weeks and haven't progressed as far as I'd like...  But I've heard around 10 tracks from the game and they're all good.  The first town theme has a sort of tropical feel, which I thought was a bit lame at first, but it grew on me quite a bit.  The battle arena theme, which is on the mini album, is an orchestrated theme with a lot of brass which I liked immediately.  Actually, most of the tracks I've encountered so far have been orchestrated, outside of the field and boss themes.  The first field theme screams Ys though, and has a vein very similar to Ys IV.  The following forest field theme is also vintage Ys uptempo, albeit light, synth rock.  I'm guessing this field = rock, other = orchestra pattern will hold strong throughout the game.  But anyway, yes very good so far.

Both field themes are exceptionally catchy, though Mother Earth Altago edges out Extensive Forest Green for me slightly.  The plucky acoustics toward the end are particularly sweet.

Was a full OST release made for Ys Seven yet?  I know there's a rip tailored from the PSP game, albeit with no official titles.  I've just gotta know what this track is named.  Theme of Adoru 2009, perhaps? smile

Angela, you hit the nail on the head.  THAT tune rocks!!

What I like about the 'good' tracks I've heard from Ys Seven, is that they seemed to have a hybrid between classic Ys (Yonemitsu style) and the modern sound from Ys Napishtam and Felghana (Violins and what not).

Also, does anyone know - are they planning to bring this out to the US on PSP?  Also no PC release?!?  Say it ain't so.  I am replaying Napishtam english patched PC on my new LCD TV.  It looks AMAZING!!!

No official OST is out yet, but I'm sure it's coming.

Wow, really Mother Earth Altago over Extensive Forest Green...  For me, Extensive Forest Green is one of those songs that perfectly exudes action/RPG sound.  And Ys, basically.  I just love that light, uptempo beat with the extra snare hits at the end of each phrase.  It's very catchy and fresh for the synth rock genre.  The melody also has a lot of ascending resolution, which I always love.

Mother Earth Altago has grown on me, but honestly, I didn't like it that much at first, outside of its classic Ys timbre of sound.  The melody at 1:00, which is the climax of the song, bugs for me for some reason.  It just sounds like an indulgent, cheap choice of melody phrasing, almost like they copped out in that section.  I do really like the last part of the song though, as you mentioned Angela.  The acoustic guitar atop the rolling bass line and electric guitar is VERY Ryo Yonemitsu-like.  It's interesting that brandonk mentioned the similarities in the soundtrack with Yonemitsu's arrangements.  I haven't heard the rip or the rest of of the soundtrack yet, but I had a feeling they were making an ode to him with this one.

I can't wait to hear the rest.

Why not Chronicles? That's gotta be the highest quality output from Falcom for the past 10-20 years. A nearly fully live rendition of two discs of classic tunes? I'm there...I love the Chronicles music. It eclipsed everything but Perfect Collection Ys for me.

Ah, is THAT how it turned out.  That must be where some of the arrangements from Ys Music History came from then.  As much as I love Ys I & II, I didn't think I needed another arrangement album of its music, and I didn't need to play the game again either.  That's why I wasn't interested in it.  However, I thought those arrangements in question on Music History were amazing.  If the entire Chronicles soundtrack is this quality, then I better email Falcom quick and add that to my order.  Thanks for the tip McCall.
