Totally interested in this, it's on my radar. Hope Ryo Kawakami does some tracks... I need more awesomeness in the vein of mm9's "Title," "Magma Man" and "Plug Man"
This announcement makes me a happy goldfish.
This announcement makes me a happy goldfish.
But wait, aren't you already a goldf.... oh. OH! Now I get it....
This release was guaranteed to happen, no surprises here. I will buy and play the game, then I will buy and listen to the soundtrack, no mystery there. I'm a little more curious about what this bonus CD will contain.

Apparently that's a preorder bonus for the MM10 soundtrack, and according to this site:
http://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/ne … 46844.html
it contains "selected tracks from the Inti Creates lable, an arranged version of the Title Song and a Chip Tune arranged version of the Highway Stage from MM10 and a Non-stop Remix of the Boss Stage from MM9".
What do you think of the composer team? It consists of Inti Creates's sound team and the veterans such as Manami Matsumae, Yasuaki Fujita, Minae Fujii, Mari Yamaguchi, Yuko Takehara, Makoto Tomozawa, Shusaku Uchiyama and Akari Kaida... (not a reprise role, apparently),
I'm happy...with a chiptune soundtrack, I honestly don't think composer line-up is as essential as, say, an all-star arrange. But all of those names pretty much have done a bang-up job in the past, so I expect few surprises and lots of what I love about classic MM music. I just hope if they collaborate on an arrange album, we get something more akin to the ZX Tunes or Rockman Zero Remastered albums (or even an Ys Perfect Collection) instead of the the MM9 Arrange flop*...
*sorry, this seems to be mentioned a few times recently. I'm not trolling anyone, but I think the tracks on MM9 largely sounded better on the OST in chiptune form than the arrange.
Can't say I care for Strike Man's theme.
Hmm yup, looks like I'm gonna have to hit up some kind of middleman service/person to order this direct from Capcom so I can get that promo CD. I'm such a sucker for bonuses like this.. *shakes fist at Capcom and self*
I like Strikeman, although not nearly as much as Tornadoman. At 0:11 seconds into Strikeman, it sounds pretty darn close to the part in Tornadoman that starts at around 0:12 seconds. I think Ippo Yamada composed Strikeman, although this is all just a guess at the moment. Aside from that, I am quite looking forward to this soundtrack. The composer list is great!
I too have decided I need to get that bonus disc at any cost, but luckily I have a friend in Japan willing to order it for me.
(There was an offer here. It's gone now.)
The things we do for Mega Man, huh? This goddamn CD better be good!
Sent you a mail, Eirikr.
Was scouring a few choice recordings from the game on Youtube, the bulk of which is coming from user WiiC24. Commando Man, Solar Man and Nitro Man appear to be the top faves for many so far, and I'm inclined to agree. I'm particularly impressed with the deep, robust bass output in Solar Man, but there's no denying that insanely catchy melodic hook in Commando Man. As SonicPanda mentions in the MM10 Gaming thread, Nitro Man's theme was the one featured in the trailer, so his will likely be seen as the poster piece for MM10. (Not unlike how MM9's Tornado Man was before it.) Funny thing, I would've suspected the roadster style melody of Solar Man to be a better fit for Nitro Man.
Chill Man has been getting a cold reception on The MM Network, but I'm liking it better than most. The second half of Blade Man is fairly awesome, and I'm really digging that warble effect that makes up the opening of Pump Man. Strike Man appears to be one of the few upbeat pieces featured on an otherwise darker feeling soundtrack, and Sheep Man, while decent, is relatively non-descript. Not a particularly memorable piece, save for the bleep-bloop element that first appears in the intro.
Haven't listened to any of the Wily Castle themes yet; I'll save those for when I play the game. The instrument-heavy Stage Select is terrific, though I'm not sure if I agree with SonicPanda's assessment of the boss theme; it may lack the out-and-out venomous overtones of MM9's Boss, but I wouldn't exactly label it as 'surprisingly goofy.'
Not to sound like a dick, but all of the MM10 music sounds just like or borrows heavily from other MM music. Which, I'm pretty sure, is the point, but it doesn't get me excited or anything. I'm glad other people that are not as jaded or disconcerted as me seem to be digging it, though! Hopefully I'll have a chance to check the game out at some point.
`This just got pushed back as far as purchases...

I'm getting the opposite feeling, I feel like it doesn't borrow enough from the previous soundtracks. It's like they scraped almost everything known about MM music and decided to rewrite the formula in a more complex way. "Nitro Man" seems to avoid this however.
Anyone else detect the small amount of Storm Eagle in Wily Stage 1?

Toss in Strikeman's theme and I can totally agree with this. These four are strong contendas. Chillman is okay, but Blade, Sheep and Pump were just plain boring to me.
And yes, I do hear Storm Eagle in Dr. Wily Stage 1, but...I dunno, to me it's probably the worst overall Wily Stage 1 theme. Not bad by any means, just kinda blah.
Mixed bag and well behind the pack of classic MM soundtracks (as well as 9), but the moments of goodness are quite glorious.

I just finished the game and I'm pretty much on the same page with these two statements. I'd say I'm in love with about 50% of the stage/Wily themes and the rest is decent at best. Just like with MM9 though, the music will almost definitely grow on me even more once I have the actual OST in my hands and I go through the game for a second and third time. Can't wait to check out what's on that bonus disc too!
It'd be pretty sweet if the OST liner notes come with a composer breakdown, especially with such a famous group of musicians, but I doubt we'll see that happen.

Really? If we're talking strictly Wily 1 themes (or in some cases, the sole Wily theme), and sticking just to the original series and not say, GB/Genesis spinoffs, I think it's a good deal better than most. I'd personally rank them like so, best to worst:
MM2
MM7
MM9
MM10
MM4
MM5
MM8
MM6
MM1
MM3
MM&B
Edit: Second-guessed myself and switched 2 of them.
I'm not trying to start anything, but what's with all the hiding of the text? I wouldn't consider any of the above spoilers. This is Mega Man and Capcom we're talking about, they are creatures of habit and we all know what's coming. The end of Mega Man X8 is perhaps the most surprising thing they've done in years with either series - not that that makes it particularly good.
Listened to the soundtrack. I'm not totally impressed. I've heard some people say the merit lies in it's disinclination to veer from the beaten path as far as composition goes in Megaman games, but that works more to the detriment of it all to my ears. About the only theme I've liked so far was Strike Man's theme.

Seconded. The consideration for other users is appreciated but I think the whiting out is being taken a bit far perhaps.
Well, OK. My main consideration was that since the game isn't even available worldwide, that it was better to assume anything specific was a spoiler until it was available everywhere. You make fewer enemies being cautious than you do being careless, after all. But point taken.
While I'm here I may as well add that while trying to clear the stage on Hard is making me grey, the music for the second Wily stage is definitely one of my favorite castle stage themes in the whole series.
EDIT: Oh hey, arrange album in April! That cover is plain awesome.
"Heat Man" and "Splashman" from The Mega Man Network posted up a full music ri.. err.. line-in recording of the entire game, very high quality, especially since all we've had so far are those crappy YouTube videos. This will happily hold me over until the OST arrives.
Original page at The Mega Man Network here.
P.S. this game's soundtrack is growing on me like mad! I've noticed myself loving more and more tracks on my second playthrough as Proto Man (which is a bitch by the way). It helps to have the music hammered into your head as you replay certain stages over and over and over again.
Wow do I ever hate that Solar Man music.
Wow do I ever hate that Solar Man music.
Really?
I've only heard the 8 stage themes so far, but it's my number 1 favorite by far.
Have to say the soundtrack so far feels quite lacklustre.
Not nearly as good as 9.
I agree with the_miker's assessment, it's one that takes time to grow on you, but that doesn't mean it's bad. If the soundtrack as a whole is disjointed and uneven, it's probably due to the sheer number of different hands at work here. I'd probably place it fifth overall in the Classic series (of 11), just below MM6 but above MM3 (the castle stage themes in 10 add a lot to the overall quality, while castle stage themes were the weakest part of MM3's music). And my own ranking of the first eight themes, best to worst:
Nitroman
Commandoman
Solarman
Sheepman
Blademan
Strikeman
Chillman
Pumpman
The first two are pitch-perfect MM music, the next two are successful experiments, the two after that have some very good phrases but aren't quite there, and the last two, while compositionally solid, don't fit the MM style very well (Chillman actually sounds a bit like something from Rare in places). I'm very interested in seeing how these are arranged this time around. I've been revisiting the MM9 Arrange album recently and it's better than most people gave it credit for back then.
I can easily concur with Miker and SonicPanda that this OST gets better with more listens. While I thought some tracks were boring at first, basically all of them have grown on me and I don't think there's a miss on the whole thing. Every track is at least above average.
I'll be waiting for the CD to hit before I listen to it outside of the game, but for now I'm content with going to Time Attack mode to listen to Solar Man, Blade Man, Nitro Man, and Wily stages 3 and 5 for ten minutes at a time before Mega Man teleports out.
castle stage themes were the weakest part of MM3's music.
I think we are going to have to agree to STRONGLY disagree on that one.
I personally think MM3 has some of the best castle stage themes in the entire series, and that it stands lonely at the top, next to 4 and 7 in that ALL castle themes are actually really good.

Yeah, I was kind of shocked when I read this as well. Don't know which ranks lowest for me, but 5's Wily Stage theme is a contender.
I'm not quite up to ranking the stage music from best to worst yet. I will say that Nitro Man, Solar Man, Chill Man, and Strike Man are in my top four though.
Regarding my comments on MM3's Wily themes, I want to stress that they aren't bad, just weaker than the pieces for the stages before them, and lacking in the energy and menace most of the best castle themes have. The only castle pieces in the series I can't stand are Mr. X from MM6 and MM&B's terrible contributions. MM3's Wily themes are OK, just not...Wily enough.
Wow...it's been 3 years...3 YEARS since I've been here...! Glad to see there are still some people I recognize along with some new faces (and that my password still works ).
That being said, I do look forward to the Mega/Rockman 10 soundtrack as well. Is it currently available for preorder yet?
Alright, I've been putting more in time into the game, and I have to admit you lot were right, the soundtrack DOES need some time to grow on you.
Totally love it now
Might as well rank the 8 Stage themes in terms of preference:
Solar Man - Someone needs to make a Rock arrangement of this, PRONTO.
Commando Man
Sheep Man
Chill Man - I find this one rather soothing. It relaxes me. Which is just as well, cause the stage itself ENRAGES me to no end!
Pump Man - Love the warbly effect in the beginning, but the rest is kinda dull.
Nitro Man
Strike Man - Too cheerleader-y
Blade Man - Just meh.
Also, maybe this is just me, but this game reminds me of the latter half of the old NES games.
If MM9 was made as an ode to MM2 then MM10 feels like an homage to MM5 to me.
Some of the stages, graphics and music really remind me of MM5, although I can't really put my finger on why.
That being said, I do look forward to the Mega/Rockman 10 soundtrack as well. Is it currently available for preorder yet?
Welcome back! Both Amazon and CDJapan have the OST up for preorder.
.... and I'm really digging that warble effect that makes up the opening of Pump Man.

I'm likely going to be in the minority here, but I've gone from digging only the intro to Pump Man to just digging it outright. Smooth, mellow, totally delicious...... a sewers-based level has never has sounded this sexy.
