Not sure if I can link to it, though.

Highly biased impressions based on skipping all the Uematsu, Kondo, Soule, and Sonic music:

Really, besides Sedge Tree, Rony Barak's solos are by far the highlight.

On a superficial level, I love the Chrono arrangement, but, although it may be the recording, the orchestration seems really simple and unbalanced (hello, snare drum!), and almost entirely taken from:

1) Sekito's arrangements in the PS remake of Chrono Trigger.

2) Scars of Time

The "medley" also features almost zero transitions....just goes straight from one section to the next, unless the transition was already in the original song.

No offense, Mitsuda, but it really doesn't sound like you spent more than 20 minutes on this. Maybe that's all the warning they gave you.

I don't think Mitsuda even arranged/orchestrated anything in the concert.

Well, in an interview that's online...somewhere...with...some guy, he said he did the Suite.

My scans of the program aren't very clear, but Mitsuda's name isn't on the arrange/orchestration credits.

N-Sider: In regards to new projects, what kinds of things are you most excited to do these days?

Mitsuda: The most exciting recently would be composing the arrangements of Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross for the Play concert. I did that back in Japan around March. They're a little different from the game album, but that's the most exciting work I've done recently.

Is it just me, or does that article response read like Engrish? tongue

Seriously!!

Mmm... Those RPGamers got quite a net... So, am I the only one who's bothered by the fact that Metal Gear Solid Main Theme is a Sviridov's Winter Road rip-off?

Kim K Jun 25, 2006

You can find a fan recording of the whole concert from VGM Central's hub.

HamandSushi Jun 25, 2006

Sorry, everybody.  Thought it might be against the rules.  I'm out of town now, so without the link, but it is indeed on RPGamers network.  You have to register, but it's worth it.

Anyone gonna be at the July 26 performance in Philadelphia? I'll be there. ^^
