I only wish they had used Mega Man 3 for the basic engine... MM2 wasn't as smooth as 3~6.

I disagree. The engine for MM3 and beyond really sucked the awesomeness and kinetic energy out of the series' presentation. Transitions shouldn't fade in and out; they should snap. Death explosions shouldn't be bewbewbewbew...; they should be DNNVDNNVdnnvdnnvdnnv. I heartily approve of their course of action.

But the music doesn't sound like Kawakami at all. Time to go rend my garments in anguish and stuff.

This needs to be on a t-shirt.

I really disliked Mega Man III because the crash damage you recieved when touching a boss was outrageous in some cases... three hits would about take you out.

Hmmm, music sounds good.
Can't say I'm too happy with the fact that they chose the SFX from the first game though.
And why that ancient style Mettaur!? The later ones looked much better...

I just want to play it, screw all the squibbles about details.

All I need to know is that it's 8-bit style and THAT'S ALL that matters for me to make a purchase.

From WiiWare exclusive, to PSN & XBLA release as well, back to WiiWare exclusive, and now back to WiiWare, PSN, & XBLA...  hmm

Also in that link, Megaman 1 & 2 coming to WiiWare (not VC!?) and official trailer.  Be warned: game looks and sounds awesome.

EDIT: They have WiiWare in the headline, but MM1&2 are coming to VC.

I'd like to reiterate Kenology's warning:

Looks and sounds awesome.

You can get a glimpse of 5-7 stages, enemies, the opening cutscene, silhouettes of the robot masters... it looks like it's straight off an NES cart. The only thing that stuck out as "not NES Megaman to me" was a stage where he was walking in between background layers (of grass), but if SMB3 warp whistle trick memories serve, the NES was capable of that.

Try not to read too much into Roll riding Rush Jet just yet.

My favorite part is how they show the progression of sprites from 1-6 to 7 to 8 and then back to 1-6 again. :-p

Is anyone out there talented enough to edit together a looped version of the main music from the new trailer (taken from IGN or Kotaku - YouTube's sound is inferior)?  I could listen to that thing all day!

What the hey, I've got a few minutes before heading out to work.  Double-looped for your listening pleasure:

We'll have to beg Capcom for an OST release.  Even with just two tracks, that music is sounding mighty fine.

It's coming to PSN and XBLA, too.  That's great news for me and the PS3, and very bad news for my Wii.  Nintendo had better kick some ass at E3, or else.  neutral

I wonder how Capcom will handle the presentation on PS3 and 360?  I don't think 720p HD would be impossible, since it appears the game is made to look like an NES game (instead of being a true or emulated 8-bit game).  Also, looking at the original Bionic Commando Rearmed trailer, I think it can happen.

XISMZERO Jul 17, 2008

Amazing! Pays homage not only to the notoriously horrendous original, but to the US & PAL box for 2 as well!

They should've gotten Shinkiro to do this one though.

Arcubalis Jul 18, 2008

Yeah, supposedly these were given away for completing both available stages with a single continue.  This was no easy feat (damn disappearing blocks!).  By the time Thursday rolled around, they were out, however.  sad

Oh man  guys, I just noticed.

Wily's bank account number in the intro is 198-71-219. As in, 1987/12/19. MEGAMAN'S BIRTHDAY.

I'm in love.

Looks like we've got a positive ID on this particular song: it's Tornado Man's Theme.

MM Network's got a handful of new samples:

Magma Man is especially awesome; it sort of reminds me of....... Sorcerian's Ice Cavern themes, maybe?
