I have a question to ask as I'm thinking about buying this on the psp.

When it first came out on the psone, I tried it out in a shop and found the voice acting to be embaressingly cringeworthy and never get it a second thought from the intro to the game. Is this the case throughout, or does it improve with playing?

Thanks!

Heh, in my opinion... the voices of Lenneth and Arngrim are absolutely wonderful, but as the game goes on, you get some characters that have voices that are a little less... appropriate.  Lawfer, for example.  I love him to bits, but he sounds way too squeaky.

Oh, if you just watched the prologue though... yeah, the voices do get a bit better.

Just buy the damn game and turn off the voices if you're afraid of losing battles because you're busy cringing.  The game is absolutely spectacular, and it's easily the best RPG for PSP out there right now.

Of course, I'm a little biased... it's my favorite game. :D

Considering that there are about three others, I'd concur with this statement.

Heh, just as a fan of the game, I'd love to see VP: Lenneth become the PSP's killer app and sell a couple of million copies. Respect for this game is long overdue. Bet Sony would be grateful as well, though I think they should have just given out copies of VP1 for PS1 as a preorder bonus for VP2. Too bad it requires an FAQ and a complex set-up to get the A ending, so that'll keep it from ever becoming mainstream.

And personally, I loved the PS1 voices. There was maybe 1 or 2 I didn't like and they were extremely minor characters (late recruits that got immediately sent up, IIRC). Those super attacks just wouldn't be as great without the right calls. This and Suikoden V have me sold on quality voice acting becoming a standard in RPG's.

I am curious how the PSP voices turned out though. And a little worried...

Well... I have no idea how they sound, or I'd let you know. :( The only "new" voice I've heard so far is during Jelanda's FMV in chapter 0... and... well, if you know what happens in that FMV, you'd know that there are no real words that come out of her mouth. XD

The voices, except those in the FMVs (the ones that have voices, anyway... I still have no idea which scenes have FMVs, and I guess I'd rather not spoil myself), are identical to the PSX version.

Most of the voice cast for VP came from the Pokemon series.  There was an interview in a game magazine with Veronica Taylor, and the actors were given a picture of their character and a basic character summary.  That is all the voice direction they received.  That would explain why the actors were inconsistent in the various scenes.

Am still not convinced... shame on me! But thanks for all of your views.

Fingers crossed Falcom don't limit their releases to the repetitive Legend Of Heroes series and perhaps port Ys, LOX and Dragonslayer with redbook audio from the old PC Engine days, and voice acting to match!

Hello everyone. I started playing valkarie profile lenneth yesterday. I started playing yesterday... and the voicing was horrible... sorry to say that. the prologe had no emotion at all and the intro when the valkire walked in her voice wasnt that great either. It is possible to change the voice to japanese but keep the english subtitles? Or does the japanese version have english subtitles?   please reply to this thankyou.

You're not going to find a single Square-Enix game that has dual audio.  English only.
Play the game a while, at least get out of the prologue and play until Chapter 2 or so.  It gets a lot better.

OBJECTION!
Defence should remember The Bouncer which did have both English and Japanese audio tracks.

Hm... true.
Well, I did say Square-Enix, though.
Yay, technicalities. ;D
