The flyer from the Sunday paper boasted this really cheap price in two locations. For those of you who haven't preordered and want to save a few bucks, head down to CC and get FFXII on the cheap!

Ryu Oct 29, 2006

What do you mean "in two locations"?

Sorry, I meant two locations within the flyer. Once on the back page, and once in the game section.

Yep, I saw that this morning too.

However, I've had the Gamestop/EB Games LE version paid in full for months now.

Also, Best Buy was advertising that their FFXII (they were using the import box art in the ad too) comes with a mini artbook.

It seems like this is an in store promo only, but all of their games online have free shipping.

Best Buy has been doing some interesting game promo stuff lately... I also heard that they had a limited number of copies of Xenosaga 3 with a holographic cover, or something strange.

Alas, I have also paid in full my reservation for the two-disc collectors edition thinger at GameStop.  I suppose I'll be going to the midnight opening tomorrow night to pick it (and the limited edition guide) up. big_smile

I had forgotten all about this. FF is sort of a tradition now with me at this stage but not having completed FFX-2 and never playing FFXI makes me wonder if I have the time or motivation to get through a FF game right now. What are the reports on this like? Anyone play the JP version?

Sabreman Oct 29, 2006 (edited Oct 29, 2006)

I've got my LE preordered via an ebay shop. I'm just hoping that they're on the ball enough to grab it and get it shipped out in time for me to get it before the weekend - I'm on holiday until the middle of next week and it would be just my luck to receive it when I get back to work tongue

Edit: Jay.... it's a work of art.

TerraEpon Oct 29, 2006

Eh, I'll wait until it's $20 used.

Yep, either the strategy guide or game says somewhere exclusive cover for Xenosaga 3 at Best Buy, I have seen them also.

Nemo Oct 29, 2006

Best Buy, CC, or not at all?  Hmm.  That Gamestop package is looking like the worst deal.

XLord007 Oct 29, 2006

I think I'd have to be paid around $50/hr. to be willing to play FFXII for any length of time.  The new battle system is a dreadfully terrible hybrid of real-time and turn-based.  I'll just stick with the OST, which I enjoy.

SonicPanda Oct 30, 2006

I'm still not sold on it, actually. The demo made it seem absolutely dreadful and Matsuno and I are kind of on the skids (FFT was great, but VS took years to get to the point where I respected it and FFTA just annoyed the everloving piss out of me). Also, randomized treasure chests are the work of the devil, or more specifically, Akitoshi Kawazu. I swear, my enjoying Legend of Mana must've been some kind of fluke.

I am interested in the story, but not enough to put down money for it, at least until, as has been mentioned, it drops to half price. That said, if I get it for Christmas, I won't ask for the receipt.

...boy, there's enthusiasm, huh?

Ryu Oct 30, 2006

Honestly, I'm shocked I not only gave it a shot but finished Enchanted Arms and am playing through Marvel Ultimate Alliance currently, but I don't consider that a true RPG anyway.  I really don't care for RPGs much anymore; although nostalgia may get the better of me on the Wii VC (assuming SMRPG or Earthbound comes out on it, for instance) and the GBA remake of FFVI.

Zane Oct 30, 2006

I'm going to pass on even trying FFXII. It takes a lot for me to really enjoy an RPG nowadays, and the demo was abyssmal. I know a lot changes between demo and final product, but I can't stand pseudo-MMO style battles. I'd rather pick commands and rock the old school FFVI ATB system than just watch my characters beef it out (*coughcontactcough*).

Shadow Hearts II is still the only RPG I've played in a long, long time that has kept my attention enough for me to realize that I'll be able to stick with it and finish it. GREAT GAME. You should go play that instead. wink

My intuition says you're right.  Every single FF game (except Tactics and GBA remakes) that I've played since FFVII has been boring.  I have to admit, I found VII boring after less than half-way through.  For those of you who are playing it, I would like to know:

a)is it a linear game?
b)what about the battle system?
c)is it typical Square Stuff (lots and lots of fluffy cinematics?)

cheers,

Damn, based on how the thread started, I figured you'd be first in line and in costume at CC to get this.

Otherwise, I mostly agree...I played enough of the demo to know I'm not interested in this. Plus like Sonic said, production duties shared between Matsuno (no thanks, VS and FFT) and Kawazu (the devil isn't too far off...I've yet to play anything from this guy I would consider 'good') can be a grave foreshadowing, depending on your stance. And I do not like this round of character designs at all.

Figure I'll just hold my nose and let the hype pass...(And hope VP2 doesn't get lost in it). Impressions and reviews have been fully mixed (and surprisingly entertaining), so I expect this one to be considered an oddball like FFVIII is nowadays....

Sabreman Oct 30, 2006

You can set the combat to a completely turn-based system where you pick and choose every single action if you like.

Nope, not at all. I just wanted to share the information with people that might be interested in getting the game at a cheaper price than MSRP.
