Got wind of this domestic release about a week ago (only 1 disc and 31 songs, so I don't recommend it for the more hard-core VGM fans), so I ordered it from some retailer on Amazon. I got a new and sealed copy -- with the words "Promotional Use Only" prominently displayed across the bar code AND at the bottom of the copyright info on the back. Anyone else have this CD, and if so, do you also have that promotional thing on the back? I find it difficult to believe that ALL of Tofu's releases of this CD are promos. Or I just got "lucky."

I bought my copy at Borders, and it is completely sans the promo bit. But was this printed on the back of the actual insert or on top of the cellophane?

I concur with the mini-review as well, 1 disc of 31 single-looped tracks plus a DVD with the Angela Aki video on it - but I was still surprised to see it in a B&M store and grabbed it without hesitation.

No promo marks on my set. Looks like the seller slipped you a promo copy instead of a retail version.

It's a decent effort for a US release, but I think it should have been packaged with the LE version of FF12.

Your amazon retailer deserves negative feedback. I give anyone and everyone that sends promotional copies (without warning about it in their item description) immediate negative feedback, no questions asked. It's illegal, and it's a pain in the ass to collectors.

(it happens to me a lot with regular pop/rock music CDs, and it makes me mad as hell).

It's not illegal....but it IS deceptive (reguardless of what they say, record companies don't make laws. Unless there was a contract, it's perfectly legal to sell an item you were given for free, so long as the item itself is legal).

And I hope you don't do it when it's simple a marker/hole through the barcode, or even just a cutout, because those aren't promos in the same sense (and cutouts never are, they are 'remainders')

No, only for when there is some sort of mark or sticker that says it's a promotional item.

Though, I would still expect a seller to say that the item's condition INCLUDES the UPC market/hole out of courtesy so that I can choose whether or not to buy it.
