I assume they do it because it's a lot cheaper without the licensing fees and QA stuff you have to do to get your game approved by one of the console manufacturers.
They're calling the next Ys, Ys 7? Origin and Felghana must not count.
As far as developing for the PC, absolutely no complaints here. You need to get a pc connected to an hdtv (LCD/DLP/Plasma). I guess I am in the minority here, but it's so damn cool. Make sure to get a bluetooth mouse and keyboard to allow for wireless control. My mouse recently went caput, and I was surprised to find a lack of bluetooth mice (Save for laptop mice) at bestbuy, fry's, and radio shack...Finally decided to order one online.
In any event, Ys Felghana and Origin looked AMAZING played on the 72'. The Logitech wannabe PS2 controller for the PC is a great fit too.
I agree however, they do need to translate their games.
Any idea on the expected date of Ys release? We were getting an Ys every year or so it seemed. Perhaps they are retooling the engine.
Good news in any event.
