From The Magic Box:

"Capcom announced Bionic Commando for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, in the game you will be able to use the bionic grappling arm to navigate levels, pound enemies in close range, rappel down sheer surfaces and toss large objects to enemies."

My take: it was inevitable to resurrect this long, lost beloved series from the Famicom/NES days. Unlike that Famicom original, I doubt anyone bearing the likeness of Hitler will have anything to do with this one.

No, it seems to have a modern setting and no Hitler this time.

The Famicom version was pretty challenging, but still fun enough to see it through to the end and blow up the place  smile

The only thing that could make this news any better would be if Junko Tamiya herself would be composing the soundtrack.

It's probably too early to really judge this, but from what they've revealed so far, it looks pretty terrible.  In addition to the awful character design, Capcom hasn't had much luck with outsourcing stuff overseas (need we look at the Maximo, Final Fight Streetwise, and the Mega Man Anniversary blunders?).  At the very least, it should be interesting to see if they can put a competent game together.

Maximo did well, right? I know Tommy Tallarico did some of the music, but the game was acclaimed. If anything MMAC was competent and well-priced for the win. Was it a fancy package? No, but it could've been.

Either way, we need more Shinkiro...

/not sure if I can forgive Capcom's ruining what's left of the Final Fight series

I know I can't forgive them for turning the X series into a low-effort cash cow.

Maximo was a poor game (largely due to lousy controls).  The first one did okay because nostalgia-stoked reviewers praised it for being difficult.  Note that the second one was an utter flop since everyone played the first one and thought it sucked so they wisely didn't buy the second one (myself included).  And yes, the music was pretty decent, Tommy Tallarico or otherwise.

MMAC was barely competent, or at least the PS2 version was.  The Cube version was massively broken due to the change in controls and no ability to customize them like in every single MM game since the SNES days.  While Capcom never admitted that MMAC was a sloppy piece of junk, I think the fact that Atomic Planet was not asked to do MMXC certainly says something (Capcom did this one itself and the improvement in quality is dramatic).

Well, the trailer's out and I am... not impressed.

It may have been the "dormant since long" line, or perhaps the fact that it looks like a post-apocalyptic Spider-Man with a disappointingly-designed protagonist, but... egh, this is definitely not the Bionic Commando I remember.

Lost Planet's grappling hook worked surprisingly well. You couldn't do mid-air grapples, though. If the same team that did LP was doing the new BC, I'd be very optimistic.

XISMZERO Oct 18, 2007

While I'm sort of excited about Bionic Commando's return, it is at heart just another remake, another sequel in a sea of remakes and sequels. Isn't this what Capcom has been trying to escape for the past few years (though they've pushed the "Street Fighter II" syndrome upon Resident Evil 4 with the PS2, PC, Wii Edition, etc.)?

And yeah, the Cube version of MMAC was lousy largely due to the (lack of) control debacle. The shell may have been junk, but at least the ports played out identical to the originals. Isn't that was really matters in the end?

Nope.  Lost Planet was developed at Capcom Japan.  This is being done by a Swedish developer.

Seeing this new trailer pretty much affirms my disinterest in this game.  I completely agree with the sentiment that this looks like a post apocalyptic Spider-Man.  Also, the music is about as generic as it gets.

In the end, yes, the games are the most important part of the package, but the whole package does matter.  Its sloppiness reflects poorly on both the Mega Man series and Capcom as a company in much the same way as Square's sloppy PSX ports of FF4-6 and CT reflect poorly on it.

GC 2008's trailer for the next-gen BC.  It's actually looking pretty good now, and I think most of us who've played Rearmed at this point may be willing to put a little more confidence in developer GRIN now:

It certainly is looking better, but I'd probably still need to play a demo before I'm convinced this is worth $60.
