Bleh.  Let's keep all our anime cliches intact while completely forsaking the much more interesting art style established in the early trailers.

Yeah, I don't like how this game now has three art styles... the awesome ink art, the in-game art, and now this boring anime art.

Rad use of music, though.  I got chills hearing that arranged excerpt of Ken's Theme.

After Soul Calibur IV, SFIV is my next most anticipated VGM soundtrack this year.  Like Bernhardt, I'm hoping for a CD release.

I guess it'll be a good indication of how much if any the VGM market has receded, since Capcom usually release a plethora of soundtracks for their Street Fighter games.

I'm sure an OST at least is a safe bet.

I think a soundtrack is very likely. I'm a bit surprised it isn't being released to coincide with the Arcade release, but maybe it'll be released around the time of the console versions. I quite like the direction they're taking with this one. The samples have been pretty good so far and this interview is quite inspiring:

"The best way to describe it would be to take the essence of the Street Fighter II soundtrack and get that nostalgic feel to it. When you talk about Street Fighter, people tend to have their own ideas of what Street Fighter II is, and if the game isn't directly in front of them when they're talking about it, they have all sorts of different memories that they go to. For instance, they picture Ryu's sprite looking much cooler than it really is--although they looked great for the time!

The music too, it's great, but people probably remember it being a lot better. What we want to do is match people's happy, nostalgic memories of it. Their idea of what Street Fighter is this big [raises hands in the air and places them around his head], and we want Street Fighter IV to be this big [spreads arms as far apart as possible]! We're going to make the game as good as they remember it, and we're going to use modern, 2008 technology in order to do it."

Anyone know who is composing it?

Bernhardt Jul 8, 2008 (edited Jul 8, 2008)

Annoying announcer guy is annoying. I hope we can toggle that off if they actually put that in the gameplay.

Crimson Viper looks like Reno from FFVII.

Awesome techno version of Ryu's theme is awesome.

Multi-platform release is multi-platform. I mean awesome.

This is exciting; I haven't played Street Fighter II since the original port, the Turbo port, or the Super port.

This is out in some places. Some people are already saying that Rufus (hideous design) is overpowered so there's probably some balancing that will make it to home versions. It seems Dan and Fei Long are being brought back for the home versions too.

Adam Corn Jul 25, 2008

I was surprised to see it at an arcade in Ueno the other day... not the first place in Tokyo that comes to mind as a gamer's hangout.  It looked good but not really PS3-level "next gen".  The "ink bleedin'" cinemas were by far the most visually appealing element.  It's too bad they couldn't carry it over into the gameplay graphics... Is what I was going to say, but looking at the trailer just posted, it seems that they have.  Is there some major post-processing going on in that trailer or have Capcom made some significant visual adjustments?

Jay Jul 25, 2008

From what I've gathered and from what I've seen of gameplay videos, the ink splashing is there but only on certain moves and not to the extent of some of what is in that trailer. The gameplay section around 45 seconds in seems to represent what I've seen - splashes on certain impacts and approaches to some moves but not screen-covering stuff like the early part of the trailer. With it only being on certain moves, I guess it's possible to have watched it in action and just not seen any move that brings it on.

Yep.  Check out the conceptual designs:  http://www.capcom.co.jp/sf4/cs2.html

Also, it seems Cammy won the online vote for character fans want to see most on the home versions:

Other word is that Guile will be in Charlie's garb, and Zangief will be sporting Final Fight's Haggar's look.

I'm curious to see the game and all, but I'm sure most Street fighter fans will agree ST on 2DF/GGPO >>> SF4 on Xbox Live/PSN

Ms. Cannon Spike confirmed:

Speaking to 1UP at the Leipzig Games Convention, Ono confirmed that Cammy, winner of the company's recent fan poll of what character they'd most like to see, is " definitely in the game."

Was able to take a visit to Chinatown Fair this morning.  As was expected, it was crowded as anything.  I was able to get a game in, though, after waiting for more than 40 minutes.  It was fun just watching, because the game looks freaken amazing in live motion.  There were expert players who looked like they'd been playing the game for years, but as I began playing myself, I began to realize why: the gameplay is just that familiar.  It very much feels like SF2 in execution, with a slight dash of SF3 physics as well.   I didn't get into any of the specifics of the Focus system, but I was able to pull off some of my favorite four-five hit combos right off the cuff - and a super combo or three.  In a way, I'm glad the second player side wasn't working at the time, and I was able to fight my three CPU opponents before biting the dust (curse you El Fuerte!) -- I don't think I was hard up enough to fight a live opponent again after all these years. :p

So yeah, SF4's pretty damned rockin'.  Get a machine over here at my local arcade, stat - but they'd better not charge three-freaken bucks per play like they do with Tekken 6 currently.

Amazingu Aug 24, 2008

They've got two machines set up at a local arcade near where I live, where one play costs only 50 yen.
I wanted to play against the CPU, but had to face a real challenger and got totally creamed almost instantly, cos I suck at arcade controls.
So yeah, I played it, but can't really give that much of an opinion on it, other than that it plays a LOT more like SF3 than SF2 to me, which is not a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

Just gimme a new SFA already.

My main beef with SFIV is the DAMN Announcer/Commentator that never shuts the hell up.

I want to fight HIM and kick HIS ass.

New screenshots reveal the console-exclusive characters in action, including Dan, Fei Long, Sakura, and Cammy.  Also, Gen was just announced.  Could Yun and Yang be far behind?

Also, SF4 has been announced for Feb09 in Japan.  I would expect a similar timeframe here.

I hope so.  If it's more than a month, I wouldn't hesitate to make SF4 my first PS3 import.

Yes, I'm inpatient.  I think that's been readily established this week.

Wow, Rose is apparently in:  http://www.shoryuken.com/?p=372

I'm liking how the character selection roster is organized.

Row 1: The SSF2/SSF2 Turbo characters
Row 2 & 3: The original eight SF2 characters
Row 4: The original four SF2 boss characters
Row 5: The new characters for SF4
Row 6: The Alpha series characters

Sweet.  I always liked Rose even though I was never very good with her.

Looks like we've got exact dates for North America and Europe now, too.  2/17 and 2/20 respectively:
