Extraordinarily busy with the end of the semester (for, you know, my job where I "basically train children to be cattle, as opposed to teaching marketable or transferable skills or knowledge, or empowering people to actually take care of themselves."  Gee I wonder why I haven't jumped into the "Hi, how are you?" thread yet...) so I haven't been really very active posting or... doing really anything on the internet BUUUUUUUUT I got an email today from Club Nintendo of Japan showing THIS:

http://club.nintendo.jp/present/itempop_p122.html

Yes, it's true.  I still don't know the html to make a link look good.  Don't care.  What I DO care about is that there's an official OST coming out for DKC Returns!  Annoyingly another Club Nintendo job, but theoretically it won't be TOO terribly difficult to obtain if past experience indicates future success.  25 tracks, so it likely won't be very complete, but I figured I'd post this since nobody else has.

Ooooh, that'd be a nice thing to spend my points on if the OST wasn't such a complete snoozefest!

That's pretty cool. I dig Club Nintendo releases; they always feel special.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the first Retro Studios game to see a soundtrack release?

EDIT: Metroid Prime had an OST release. I completely forgot about that.

I was always disappointed the other Metroid Primes never got ost releases.  My only complaint about the Club Nintendo discs is that it's more of a pain to get them here.  And as for the quality of the soundtrack, I really haven't heard that much of it so I can't really comment...

Hmm...now, where have I heard that line before...? Sounds suspiciously lot like someone I know... big_smile

As for DKC Returns, I'd be glad to just my hands on the game inexpensively...much less have the time to actually play it...maybe around this next Christmas, yeah?

Another mega super limited rare Club Nintendo release, hooray.

But the music is great, at least in the game.

Well, even if they are "rare", they tend to cost around $35 on ebay.

Damn it.  Now I have to track this one down too.

The DKC Returns score was arguably the weakest part of the game but it's good to see Nintendo releasing more of their music.

It requires a lot of labor to make a CD, and even if we do, we think we still should utilize our musical assets for such promotion that you can enjoy games more. we'll try to help more people enjoy the sound of Nintendo, through enclosures like this issue of Nintendo Dream and the guide book of Chibi-Robo!, the rewards of Club Nintendo, or the launch of Nintendo Mobile. Game is what matters most to us, and we'll use game music as promotion."

I know who translated that interview, and the quality was rather poor. If we want something to spread over Internet as an official statement about why Nintendo is so cold on VGM, it has to be much better translated (especially, as so-called professorial translators have apparently arisen in the VGM industry).

Guess we'll just wait for someone to do it better then  smile

Although the notion about them "being cold" to VGM has been evident for many years, so the thought of them viewing VGM as only promotion for more games certainly isn't an outrageous claim.
